Meyer posted one photograph, showing the two smiling happily into the camera as Palin rests her ring hand, adorned with a large diamond engagement band, against Meyer's chest. "I'm definitely the luckiest guy ever to be able to spend the rest of my life with @bsmp2 [Palin's Instagram user name] #shesaidyes," Meyer captioned the picture.
Palin also shared the news with her 5,200 Instagram followers, uploading an image of the couple kissing. Palin described herself in the caption as "the luckiest girl in the world". "Cannot wait to marry this man," Palin added. Palin also posted a close up of her large diamond engagement band.
Meyer, as E! reports, is a 26-year-old Marine veteran who received the Medal of Honor in 2009. Meyer served in Afghanistan and, whilst on patrol in 2009, saved the lives of 36 of his fellow soldiers when they were attacked by Taliban forces. In 2009, he was awarded the Medal of Honour by President Barack Obama, becoming the first living Marine to receive the award since the Vietnam War.
It is not clear when the couple started dating and neither had publically acknowledged their relationship. Sarah Palin posed for a photograph with the couple in January 2015 and shared the picture on Facebook. She gave no indication the couple were romantically involved.
Palin has a 6-year-old son, Tripp, by her former fiancé, Levi Johnston. The former couple separated in 2009.
