The dark 2014 sci-fi will star Bryan Cranston, Juliette Binoche and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
The trailer for the 2014 remake of Godzilla has finally been released and yes, it does appear that they've gone for the Cloverfield technique of smoke, mirrors and swishing monster tails. However, instead of the shaky-cam civilian angle of the 2008 monster movie, it appears that Godzilla will be told largely through the eyes of the armed forces who are literally parachuted into the heart of the city smashing action.
2014's 'Godkilla' Will Present A Dark New Take On The Classic Japanese Monster.
Sixteen years after the release of the last attempt at a Godzilla movie in 1998, we'll be gifted with a brand new imagining of the classic Japanese pop culture icon. Though the last movie was considered a flop, it could be predicted that the new movie will fare better due to a push from 3D and IMAX ticket sales as well as a heavy current interest in sci-fi and action.
Directed by Gareth Edwards, Godzilla will see Bryan Cranston play scientist Joe Brody with Elizabeth Olsen and Juliette Binoche as his daughter and wife respectively whilst Aaron Taylor-Johnson will star as main military man Lieutenant Ford.
Rather than being a "Humans Vs. Monster" movie, Godzilla will apparently show the titular dinosaur-like giant do battle with a large mutant insect species, currently known as Mutos. Witnesses at Comic-Con 2013 reported insects with scythe-like limbs that seemed to be a more threatening enemy to mankind than the massive lizard seen crushing cities.
Watch The New 'Godzilla' Trailer:
"An epic rebirth to Toho's iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure pits the world's most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence," reads Legendary Pictures' official synopsis, according to Collider.
Whilst many of the previous Godzilla incarnations (and there have been many) have been relatively low-budget and generally low-impact, the second in the line of the entirely American studios-produced Godzilla movies has been made with a reported $160 million budget.
To be honest, after being initially intrigues by the trailer, we were sceptical when presented with dust clouds, rubble and teasing shots. All that changed though when we heard that oh-so-distinctive Godzilla shriek. They've done a good job.
Godzilla is due on release on the 16th May 2014.
