Hollywood director Bryan Singer has filed a motion to have a sexual assault lawsuit against him dismissed.
The X-Men filmaker's lawyer Marty Singer filed papers at a court in Honolulu, Hawaii on Wednesday (21May14) asking for Michael Egan's civil suit to be thrown out.
Egan claims he was attacked by Singer at a party in Hawaii when he was a minor in the late 1990s.
In the motion, Singer's legal team refers to a sworn deposition dating from 2003 in which Egan states he had never been to Hawaii. The deposition was in relation to a 2000 sexual abuse lawsuit against different defendants.
The dismissal motion states the director has documented proof that he was not in Hawaii at the time of the alleged assault, and alleges the lawsuit was planned to coincide with the release of Singer's new film, X-Men: Days of Future Past.
The legal papers state, "(The) timing of this action and inclusion of its detailed, sordid (and provably false) allegations are nothing more than tools being used to embarrass, harass, and pressure Singer and precipitate a shakedown of a perceived 'deep pocket'."
Singer is also facing a separate lawsuit from an unnamed accuser over allegations he had sex with a 17 year old at a Superman-themed party at a London hotel.
