Director Bryan Singer will also be answering questions next week

The clip, a brief few seconds look at the upcoming X Men movie, was uploaded to the official X Men movies Instagram page earlier today (24 Oct.) to give fans their very first look at the project. The seizure-inducing clip isn't just here to wet our appetite until the next year though, as it also serves as a pre-trailer trailer, meaning that it precedes the release of the official trailer by a few day. The actual, official trailer will be released virally and in cinemas on 29 October.

There really isn't too much to take away from the clip in terms of a story line, but as we already know (especially if you're a devoted X Men nerd), the film follows the 1981 'Uncanny X Men' story line of the same name, which is set in a dystopian future where mutants are rounded up and placed in internment camp or killed. In the comics, the future-based Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page) uses her phasing abilities to go back in time and change the course of history by erasing the event that triggers the anti-mutant hysteria from the history books.

In order to fit in with the previous films, Days of Future Past won't be a direct rip of the comic storyline, but will follow a similar story, one that is split across two timelines and sees the characters from the original X-Men film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from X-Men: First Class in order to save their own future. For those who want a little more explanation, director Bryan Singer on 28 October on the movie's official Twitter page.

X Men: Days of Future Past will arrive in cinemas on 23 May, 2014.
