The stars shot to fame after filmmaker Wim Wenders captured their performances in Amsterdam, Netherlands and New York City for his seminal 1999 release Buena Vista Social Club, which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Documentary Feature.

Now director Lucy Walker has been tapped to make a sequel by joining the group on the final dates of its goodbye trek this summer (15).

Production will begin in July (15) ahead of a planned 2016 release.

Forty musicians, most of whom are senior citizens, have been a part of the ever changing line-up of the Latin group, with notable artists including Afro-Cuban singer Ibrahim Ferrer and American guitarist Ry Cooder serving as leaders.
