The Republican Party might be known for its staunch views on tradition and nuclear family values, but it seems Senator Lindsey Graham is taking an unusual stance by showing his support for Caitlyn Jenner - formerly known as Bruce Jenner - following her recent gender transition.

He's running for the 2016 presidential nominations for the Republicans and his idea of scooping more votes seems to be by embracing the modern world; in particular, those media icons that are causing the most excitement. While he admits that he is indeed your typical Republican - telling the world on CNN's 'State of the Union' that he was a 'pro-life, traditional marriage kind of guy' - he is still sympathetic of Jenner's struggles.

'I haven't walked in her shoes', said Graham. 'I don't have all the answers to the mysteries of life. I can only imagine the torment that Bruce Jenner went through. I hope she has found peace.' He went on to add that 'if Caitlyn Jenner wants to be a Republican, she is welcome in my party'.

Of course, Graham isn't the only politician to show his support for the Vanity Fair cover model. President of the United States Barack Obama - of the Democratic party - has been posting numerous Tweets urging the world to show their support for the LGBT community during Pride Month, and he even addressed Caitlyn directly with the Twitter post: 'It takes courage to share your story.'

The news comes after Jenner revealed that she identified herself as a Republican, but it seems that having such an icon of LGBT issues in their midst has been a source of great discomfort for like-minded politicians - most of whom have chosen not to comment on her situation.
