Caitlyn Jenner will not be charged over the fatal car accident she was involved in earlier this year. The reality star had been facing a potential charge of vehicular manslaughter after the automobile wreck in California back in February that left one woman dead.

According to court documents obtained by People, the Los Angeles District Attorney has determined after months of investigation that their office “cannot prove beyond a reasonable doubt” that Jenner’s conduct behind the wheel was unreasonable and that insufficient evidence has been uncovered to sustain such a charge.

“We believed from the start that a thorough and objective investigation would clear Caitlyn of any criminal wrongdoing,” Jenner's attorney Blair Berk said in a statement. “We are heartened the District Attorney has agreed that even a misdemeanour charge would be inappropriate. A traffic accident, however devastating and heartbreaking when a life is lost, is not necessarily a criminal matter.”

The accident occurred on the Pacific Coast Highway when Jenner’s Cadillac Escalade rear-ended a Lexus driven by 69 year old Kim Howe, after the latter had braked hard to avoid ramming a Prius which had stopped suddenly for unknown reasons, according to the court papers. The impact pushed Howe’s car into oncoming traffic, whereupon it was struck, causing her death.

Howe’s step-children subsequently sued Jenner for wrongful death, and prosecutors have been investigating the accident for several months. Police have determined that Jenner was in fact driving minimally below the speed limit and slower than Howe.

Jenner, who legally changed her name last month having transitioned from male to female earlier in 2015, was asked about the crash by Today’s Matt Lauer. “I remember it happening and that's about it,” she replied. “A tragedy like this, you'll never get over it. You just learn to live with it the best you possibly can.”
