The 'Battlestar Galactica' actor has been cast as Anastasia Steele's father.
Keith Callum Rennie has become the latest actor to be added to the cast of the upcoming movie adaptation of EL James' erotic trilogy Fifty Shades of Grey. The 53 year-old actor has been cast as the step-father of Anastasia Steele, Ray Steele, meaning the small Steele family is finally complete, as reported by Deadline.
Keith Callum Rennie Has Been Cast As Ray Steel In The '50 Shades' Movie.
Rennie will join actresses Dakota Johnson, who will play his daughter Ana, and Jennifer Ehle, who will play his ex-wife Carla May Wilks and Anastasia's mother. In the wider cast, Rennie will join Jamie Dornan, who stepped into Charlie Hunnam's shoes to play Christian Grey, Rita Ora, Eloise Mumford, Marcia Gay Harden, and more as the movie begins to stand on two feet after being beleaguered by casting issues for some time.
British-born Rennie has become mainly known for his prominent roles in television series, including Battlestar Galactica's Cylon Leoben Conoy and Californication's Lew Ashby and is frequently type-casted as the "bad guy" character.
Jennifer Ehle Will Play Ray's Ex-Wife & Ana's Mother, Carla.
The 50 Shades movie will seemingly buck the trend for Rennie though, as although Ray is portrayed in the novels as a taciturn, gun-handy carpenter, he is regarded by Ana as her real father and makes efforts to bond with Christian over fly-fishing.
It appears that by casting Rennie, the producers are pushing for a gruff but ultimately compassionate father, not dissimilar to Billy Burke's Charlie Swan in the Twilight saga. Rennie's wealth of experience as an actor will, like Ehle, help to bolster the integrity of the movie and help to prevent any B-movie allegations of smut.
Dakota Johnson Is Currently Filming As Anastasia Steele.
Charlie Hunnam's walk-out and replacement led to the movie's release date being pushed back from summer 2015 to February 2015. Filming on set in Vancouver began after months of delays on the 1st December and it appears as though Sam Taylor-Johnson's adaptation is finally on the right track.
