The Sunday Times has compiled its annual richest musicians list. They're all very rich.
It’s time for the annual Sunday Times list of richest people under 30, so grab a tub of ice cream and start wondering what went wrong in your own life in comparison to these folks. In a surprise twist, Adele (26) topped the list, despite releasing her last album in 2011. Adele’s list of achievements currently includes several Grammies and an Oscar, as well as £15 million earned since last year’s tally. There are also whispers of a new album coming at the end of this year, so we will probably see Adele near the top of the 2015 chart as well.
Adele is a pro at turning heartbreak into art. Also lots and lots of money.
The second name on the list is also familiar it’s Calvin Harris, who is currently sitting pretty on top of the singles chart with his track Summer. Harris, aka Adam Richard Wiles, dropped his third studio album 18 Months in 2012 and has been releasing a steady stream of singles since then. No wonder that his net worth is now estimated at £30 million.

Apparently the popstar isn't the most courteous of neighbours.
Rita Ora is apparently on the move out of her swanky west London apartment after her neighbours complained that she was too noisy to live near, according to The Sun. If the rumours are true, the 'Shine Ya Light' singer has been asked to find somewhere different to live after disgruntled, and probably sleep-deprived, neighbours complained to the landlord about wild, all night parties.
Rita Was Rapped For The Racket.
"Rita is on the move after some complaints about noise in her last place," said a source who added "Rita has been told about the noise before but she ignored it and now the landlord says she has to go. This isn't the first time she's been threatened with eviction but it's much more serious now. Rita lives in a nice building with a lot of older neighbours who aren't happy with her."

20 artists hopeful of taking the £20,000 cash prize.
Forget the Mercury Prize, the long list for the Scottish Album Of The Year looks absolutely blinding, comfortably trumping the weak dozen that comprised the competition of the supposedly more prestigious award last Autumn.
20 albums have been included in the long list for the award, organised by the Scottish Music Industry Association, and the winner of the prize will get a cool £20,000, which to be honest is more than most of them are ever going to earn in record sales these days – poor blighters. But, while they may be cash poor, there’s a creatively rich bunch in the running for the SAY Award. One of our favourites is Errors ‘Have Some Faith In Magic,’ and they said in a statement "We're really pleased to be part of the longlist. There were some great records released last year and the SAY award gives us another opportunity to celebrate all of them."
However perhaps the favourites are Django Django, who’ve just completed a successful US tour. In their statement they said "It feels great to be nominated for this award. it's really unexpected but a great surprise. We're up against some healthy competition but that's the positive thing about it because it means that the music scene in Scotland is thriving.” The biggest names on the list are either Emeli Sande or Calvin Harris - we’d be surprised if his LP 18 Months is in the reckoning. He’ll just have to make do with the accolade of being the first ever artist to achieve eight top 10 UK singles off one album, after his song with Ellie Goulding, I Need Your Love made it to seventh spot at the weekend.
Calvin Harris may have started this week off well, but it came off the back of a beer-soaked weekend.
Calvin Harris might have to start distancing himself from his audience in future after the Scottish DJ got drenched during a DJ slot by a punter who threw their drink at the hit-maker. The Dumfries, Scotland-born DJ was only 30 minutes into his hour long set when the unfortunate run-in with the tipsy fan took place, but fortunately things were soon under control.
Calvin Harris knows that the show must go on!
According to The Sun, a source from the club said: “Calvin took it all in his stride. He even joked that next time he DJs he’ll wear waterproofs," adding that the culprit was immediately dealt with and Harris, after a quick change of t-shirt, soon got back to his set. The source added, “Calvin was a pro and carried on unphased and ended up DJing for extra time when a lot of lesser performers would have stormed off.”
Harris beats Michael Jackson's record of seven from one album
You might say he’s been milking it somewhat, but then if the results are this good then you can’t blame a fellow: Calvin Harris has become the first artist ever to have eight Top 10 UK singles from just one album, after his track ‘I Need Your Love’ featuring Ellie Goulding managed to reach number seven in the charts last weekend (April 21, 2013).
A delighted Harris tweeted "Eight Top 10s from my album 18 Months now! So happy!!!" While further plaudits came from Martin Talbot of the Official Charts Company, who said "Many artists only achieve a handful of hits in their entire careers, so for any act to secure three or four from one album is an excellent achievement.” Continuing he added "In turn, eight top 10s from one album is not just impressive, it is absolutely remarkable. And, of course, record breaking. Congratulations to Calvin Harris, the modern day hit-maker."
Harris has been turning out top 10 hits from this latest album, 18 Months, dating back to June 2011 when Bounce featuring Kelis went to number two in the singles charts. Since then he’s also had team-ups with Rihanna, Ne-Yo, Example, Florence Welch and Tinie Tempah hit the upper echelons, as well as the non-collaborative ‘Feel So Close’. Congratulations Calvin… maybe get onto another album now?

Calvin Harris has made chart history by becoming the first person to have eight top ten hits released from the same album.
Calvin Harris' latest track, 'I Need Your Love', featuring singer Ellie Goulding, climbed up to number seven on the Official Chart at the weekend and while his continued run of form in the charts is impressive, the success of this particular song was extra special. With his latest chart entry, the DJ and producer from Dumfries, Scotland became the first artist ever to have eight top 10 hits in the UK from one studio album, 18 Months.
A Week in Videos... Undoubtedly the most eagerly-anticipated video of the week comes from Daft Punk, who return to the scene with ‘Get Lucky.’ Featuring Pharrell on vocals and the legend that is Nile Rogers on guitar, the track has already broken daily play records on Spotify and quickly became one of the most talked-about tracks online. A classic in the making, Roger’s distinctive guitar sound lends the track an authentic disco edge.
Heavy on the expletives, low on production costs, this Frank Turner video for ‘Plain Sailing Weather’ sees the angry troubadour continuing the confessional vibes of his last single ‘Recovery.’ Playing with his band in a church, the track begins with Frank playing alone, with his guitar, before the band kick in with him for the chorus.
Falling LED screen injures two workers at dance music festival in Miami
Two workers have been injured during the set-up of the Ultra Music Festival in Miami, due to take place this weekend. The festival, which is enjoying a 15 year anniversary this year and boasts the “World’s best DJs,” including Carl Cox, Calvin Harris and Richie Hawtin has been hampered by the news that an LED screen fell and injured two workers during set-up time.
In a statement, the festival’s organisers confirmed “Today (Thursday, March 14) as preparations were being made for this weekend’s Ultra Music Festival, a section of an LED screen fell and injured two workers. Fire Rescue was on site so there was a rapid response. Festival organizers are working with, and supporting, authorities as they investigate the details behind the accident.” Associated Press have reported that a third worker also received minor injuries as a result of the incident. The festival area was not yet open to ticketholders when the incident occurred.
The Ultra Music Festival is due to start today (Friday March 15, 2013) and tickets have almost sold out, according to the festival’s website. The festival in Miami will take place over two weekends, the first being this weekend and the second taking place next weekend (March 22-24, 2013). As well as a Miami event, the Ultra Music Festival has also branched out to Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Korea and Ibiza and will be expanding into Croatia, this year as well.
It has been said over and over, but 2013 truly is the year of the comeback. Justin Timberlake has been going all out on his return to music and having unveiled the first track of his new album, The 20/20 Experience, 'Suit and Tie' with Jay Z, his musical resurrection was nothing short of a revelation. Continuing to keep up the momentum JT will be headlining London's Wireless Festival in the Queen's Olympic Park this summer, along with Jay.
As the Guardian reports, the prior venue for the urban festival - Hyde Park - had suffered with noise complaints. At the Queen's Olympic Park (where the Olympics were held), there's few more appropriately grand locales for the festival. If you were excited about the headliners, the rest of the acts will delight you too; Frank Ocean, Kendrick Lamar, Emeli Sandé. Snoop Dogg, John Legend, Calvin Harris, Dj Fresh and Rita Ora, are just the tip of the iceberg.
With such great acts, there's a price to go with it. For two days you'll be paying £110, or £57.50 for just either the Friday or the Saturday. Solo tours for many of the performers could reach £50 easily, so it's excellent value for money. They go on sale on Friday morning so snap them up while you can.
For the second year in a row, the Grammys have taken heat for allowing an unknown artist into a category amongst some of the industry's biggest players.
Last year it was Linda Chorney's inclusion in the Americana category. This year, the decision to recognise Al Walser alongside Avicii, Swedish House Mafia, Calvin Harris and Skrillex in the best dance recording category has raised eyebrows to dizzy new heights.
"I think the Grammys need to take a hard look at their infrastructure to make sure that something this disgraceful doesn't happen again," music producer and DJ Tommie Sunshine said. Bill Freimuth, The Recording Academy's vice president of awards disagrees, and thinks the social media program allows independent and less well-known artists to boost their profile.
The pop band have also beaten their own record by doubling their previous hit 'Moves Like Jagger' featuring Christina Aguilera which remained at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for just four weeks. South Korean rapper Psy, whose hilarious hit 'Gangnam Style' originally hit the charts at number one has dropped to number two for its seventh week. Last week, the points between the two songs were scarce at just 600, but more and more listeners seem to be enjoying 'One More Night' as this week 2,000 points separate the two tunes. It is also in its fifth week on top of the Radio Songs chart while Psy still stands at the top on the Digital Songs and On-Demand Songs charts. The last seven week run at number one was Rihanna with 'We Found Love' featuring Calvin Harris in November and December 2011.
At number three is Fun.'s 'Some Nights' while 'Diamonds' by Rihanna goes from number five to number four. Taylor Swift's 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together' is now at number five having survived three weeks at number one on its release.
Calvin Harris will most likely be taking a peek at this week’s UK album’s releases (Monday November 5, 2012) and resigning himself to handing over the albums chart crown to Robbie Williams, come Sunday. In fact, it’s quite appropriate that Robbie has named his album Take The Crown, because that’s exactly what we think he’ll be doing this week.
Take The Crown is Robbie Williams’ ninth solo studio album and if the first single to be lifted from the album is anything to go by, it’s heading straight for the top of the charts. ‘Candy’ went in at number one yesterday, following an appearance from Williams on the UK’s X Factor show the previous weekend. The former Take That singer recently welcomed his first child into the world – what better way to celebrate than with a number one album?
Watch Robbie Williams' 'Candy':
Psychedelic Pill is the 35th studio album from Neil Young and was written and recorded in collaboration with his sometime band, Crazy Horse, marking their first album of original material since Greendale in 2003. As with many of Young’s latter-day releases, the quality is less than consistent. Reviews from The Guardian and the Independent suggest that Psychedelic Pill contains “moments of majesty,” (The Independent) as well as some less impressive tracks. It’s unlikely that any of this week’s releases are going to shake Taylor Swift from her throne at the top of the UK album chart but with reassuring reviews in the mainstream press, Psychedelic Pill should prove popular amongst Young’s considerable fanbase.
Also released today is the interestingly-titled Oui Oui Si Si Ja Ja Da Da, by veteran ska-pop band Madness. It’s the tenth studio album from Madness and contains 14 new tracks, as well as cover art from the ever popular pop-art legend Peter Blake (he designed the cover for The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band). The Guardian gave the album an impressive 3 stars out of 5 but can Madness really recapture the youthful exuberance of their glory days, with this latest album? It seems unlikely that they’ll continue to enjoy the success that they experienced in years gone by.
"It changed absolutely everything. Career-wise it was the best thing that could ever have happened," recalled Harris. "For example, in America my tune Feel So Close came out about three months before. But when We Found Love came out, the radio started playing Feel So Close like it was the single after. Then that did really well, it charted well and sold a lot of copies." His new single Sweet Nothing, which features Florence Welch topped charts last Sunday, and his new album 18 Months comes out this Monday (October 29). "It's very pleasing. I still get the same buzz, definitely. My own No1s are not that frequent, so it's a pretty special thing even though a lot of people say that you don't really have to sell that many nowadays -- it's all relative." He adds of the album: "There's a new one with Tinie Tempah, a new one with Ellie Goulding. There's a lot of different stuff -- it's half compilation of what I've done in the last 18 months and half new stuff."
Having achieved such success with his pen, Harris finds it irksome when people get his songs wrong, like the rumour that his new album features a song called Thinking About You written by JLS. "That's complete b*******, someone made that up and put it on Wikipedia. That was nothing to do with them -- me and Ayah Marar, who sings on it, wrote it," he explained.

One Direction have won one of the biggest awards at the 2012 MTV European Music Awards. Don’t panic though, there’s still roughly a month to go until the actual event but MTV have already announced that One Direction have been named Best UK/ Ireland Act of the Year.
Louis Tomlinson spoke on behalf of the band to thank their fans for voting for them, telling MTV News, “We're so happy and incredibly honoured to have won this. Once again our amazing fans have done us proud – thanks so much as always to you all” said Tomlinson.
The awards ceremony itself is scheduled to take place in Frankfurt on November 11, 2012 and will be hosted by the supermodel Heidi Klum. Amongst the musical highlights of the evening are Taylor Swift and No Doubt. Taylor Swift will be making her EMA debut and said “I’ve always wanted to go to the EMA, because you hear about the spectacle of it, and how everyone just goes all out for their performances. To be nominated for five EMAs was the most exciting feeling, and I was absolutely blown away. I can’t wait to be there this year and perform on the show!”

Quite often, when you listen to an artist's recorded output, you can sense what they were going through at the time of writing it. You can feel their pain, their sorrow, their joy, the anticipation of lust. It's this shared experience that makes listening to music such a cathartic, enriching experience. And so it is, listening to Calvin Harris' third album '18 Months,' that you can almost feel the heavy tread of the sole of the record company's boot in the back of Harris' back. As you dive into round #34 of certified dance-floor-filler clipped drum beats and bolstered synths, you, too, may feel the pressure on your shoulders starting to weigh down. That, we can presume, was the very same pressure that Harris must have felt after 'We Found Love' went stellar last year. 'More of that, please Calvin,' they must have asked. So we have more of it. A lot more of it.
We got a lot more in the way of guest vocalists, as Harris stepped back from the microphone and let the really famous people do the talking. At times, it's inspired. Kelis' turn on 'Bounce' is sparky, buoyed by 8-bit style beats and infused with joyousness. At other times, however, it seems that Harris is masking the lack of dimension in his production by asking a reliable stream of singers to bring their own brand of variety to the table for him. Both Ellie Goulding and Florence Welch provide some of the more interesting additions to the album. Still, it's a disappointment when the tracks on which they appear remain carelessly placed in the canon of formulaic electro-pop that Harris has come to rely on so heavily. In both cases, he appears to be exploring some nuances of his own ability, but seems to freak out at his own sense of exploration and before long, the tracks are whomping and whooping along just like all the others.
'I Need Your Love' starts with a degree of subtlety (well, 'subtle' in Calvin Harris terms, which isn't really subtle at all and involves a pretty dramatic piano-led introduction); the perfect complement to Ellie Goulding's 'don't touch me I might snap' vocals. The relieving switch in tempo lasts less than 30 seconds before the oppressive onslaught of synthetic drums kicks in. Listening to the fifteen tracks contained herein - some of which, listeners will be familiar with, such as the Rihanna vehicle ',' which was first released last year - there's a sense that Calvin Harris only has one gear and there's a sense that he's locked into it, no matter how hard he tries to break away.
