Cara Delevingne has reportedly missed out on the lead role in the 'Fifty Shades of Grey' movie.

The 21-year-old model - who made her movie debut as Princess Sorokina in 2012 romantic drama 'Anna Karenina' - auditioned for the kinky role of Anastasia Steele in June, but has been turned down.

A source told The Sun newspaper: ''The lead role was not something that was offered.''

Although she won't play the protagonist character, the stunning model may still be offered a supporting part in the Sam Taylor-Johnson-directed movie.

'Game of Thrones' beauty Emilia Clarke and little-known actress Dakota Johnson are the frontrunners to play virginal Anastasia in Universal's big screen adaptation of E.L. James' best-selling book. Meanwhile, 'Pacific Rim' hunk Charlie Hunnam is reportedly the top choice to play bondage-loving Christian Grey.

Cara was recently cast as a party girl in British flick 'Kids in Love', a drama about a group of teenagers who enjoy crazy nights out in London, boozing till the early hours of the morning, and taking drugs.

A source said: ''It will be Cara's first big screen role, so she's really excited about it and is eager to make sure that she does a good job.''
