English actress, Carey Mulligan, has been earmarked to play US politician Hillary Clinton and is reportedly in talks with the director of an upcoming biopic.
It has been rumoured that The Great Gatsby actress, Carey Mulligan, is favoured to play the US Secretary of State and former first lady, Hillary Clinton, in an upcoming biopic entitled Rodham, according to sources speaking to The Hollywood Reporter.
However, director James Ponsoldt, who directed The Spectacular Now earlier this year, is said to be keeping several other A-list actresses in mind for the role including, Emma Stone, Scarlett Johansson, and Jessica Chastain.
Set in 1974, the feature-length film will be centred of the life of a young lawyer Clinton before she and her husband, former-president Bill Clinton, entered The White House and will be released in 2016 to chime with the next US presidential election.
Brit-girl Mulligan, 28, is reportedly biopic producers' first choice after she has proven herself to be a versatile actress in numerous solid roles, including Drive (2001), Shame (2001), and An Education (2009), the latter of which she was nominated for 'Best Actress' at the Oscars.
Not least has Mulligan proven that she can pull off a decent American accent, she is currently one of the most in-demand actresses in Hollywood, which will stand her in good stead as she competes for the sought-after role amongst other under-40 tinseltown actresses.
No formal decisions have been made yet but we reckon Mulligan's a shoe-in for the Clinton role: the two do look rather alike, with round faces, soft eyes and light blonde hair. Playing such a powerful member of US politics would enable the London-born actress to spread her wings and expand from roles that have previously seen her play gentler characters.
What do you think? Would Carey Mulligan do justice to the prospective first female president of the USA?
