British actress Carey Mulligan visited the Democratic Republic of Congo last month (Oct14) as part of War Child U.K's fundraising appeal.

The Great Gatsby star was recently named a Global Ambassador for the charity, which supports children whose lives have been torn apart by conflict, and she is now fronting the organisation's Emergency Appeal.

As part of the campaign, Mulligan recently visited the African country, where she witnessed first-hand the devastating effects of war on families. She also spoke to some of the children and created a short video which she hopes will raise awareness of their plight.

Mulligan says, "During my time in the Democratic Republic of Congo, I met children whose lives have been destroyed by conflict. War Child are helping these children rebuild their lives in extraordinarily difficult circumstances. War Child's Emergency Fund is critical to help them reach children like those I met in the... camp, who are alone, vulnerable and in desperate need of protection."

The Emergency Appeal is raising money to help the organisation respond rapidly and offer aid as soon as conflict breaks out.
