British rocker Carl Barat is forming a new band to release his latest songs as he is sick of life as a solo artist.

The guitarist shot to fame as co-frontman of cult band The Libertines in 2002 and he went on to form Dirty Pretty Things when the group split in 2004.

They broke up in 2008 and Barat released his debut solo album two years later (10), but now he has revealed he wants to put together another group of rockers as he is fed up with being a solo star.

He is advertising for musicians on his official website and is adamant he will not release his latest album until he has a new band to tour it.

Barat tells NME.com, "I don't want to be a solo artist anymore, I want to get another band together and I want to do that straight away. I've made a record I'm really proud of, but I've worked too hard to just put it out there. The songs are great, so I don't just want to get a load of session players in to tour it. I want the best band around me to play it, I want the gang mentality.

"I didn't really enjoy being a solo artist. When you're in a band I think you have so much more freedom than when you're on your own as a solo musician. There's strength in numbers, basically, and less focus on what you're wearing or doing on stage, so you don't need to second-guess what people's reaction is going to be to every little think you do as a solo artist. There's too much scrutiny."
