Fact: Veteran rocker Carlos Santana has been given double the reason to celebrate his 68th birthday on Monday (20Jul15) - he is set to be honoured for his memoir at the 36th annual American Book Awards. The Latin superstar and his co-authors, Ashley Kahn and Hal Miller, will be feted for their work on The Universal Tone at the prizegiving, which celebrates diversity in publishing. Other winners include Marlon James for A Brief History of Seven Killings, which was partly based on the attempted assassination of Bob Marley, and poet Anne Waldman, who will be recognised with a lifetime achievement accolade.
Fact: Guitar great Carlos Santana, Swedish Dj Avicii, rapper Wyclef Jean and Brazilian singer Alexandre Pires have been chosen to perform the closing anthem at the upcoming soccer World Cup tournament in Brazil this summer (14).
