Carly Rae Jepsen has revealed she worked as a bartender and a coffee barista among other jobs before making it as a pop star.
Carly Rae Jepsen worked as a bartender before finding pop fame - but only passed her qualifying test because she agreed to go to dinner with her examiner.
The 29-year-old pop star had a number of jobs as she tried to make it as a singer and one of her more memorable roles was serving booze at a club.
Carly needed to take a test to show what cocktails she could make in order to get the gig and although she was sure she failed as a mixologist her tester was dazzled by her beauty and passed her.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she recalled: ''I was a bartender at this place called Media Club. God only knows how I passed my bartending exam. Actually, I do know. The guy asked me to dinner at the end of it. And I was like, 'That's why I got 98 percent.' Somehow I got a job out of that thing, and all I knew how to make was a screwdriver. And beer!''
The Canadian songstress admits she lived a ''very bohemian lifestyle'' when she was an aspiring musician but she appreciates every experience because they helped shape her as an artist.
She explained: ''It was a very bohemian lifestyle. For a while, I was living with a girl named Veronique, a French Canadian girl, who had a pull-out couch, and she was renting it for 400 dollars a month. Which is more than I could afford. I was working as a coffee barista. And then I soon became the pastry chef's assistant, because the actual chef went away to see her internet lover in Norway. I was the only one who knew how to make all those pastries. I could make you eight cheesecakes at a time. Slowly building my way to the top!''
