Carrie Fisher has confirmed she did have a secret affair with Harrison Ford on the set of Star Wars in 1976, confirming a 40-year-old rumour.

Speaking to People magazine, the actress opened up on the whirlwind three-month romance, which took place when she was 19 and Ford was a 33-year-old married father of two.

“It was so intense,” she told the magazine.

“It was Han and Leia during the week, and Carrie and Harrison during the weekend.”

Fisher said she decided to come clean about the affair after coming across ‘angst-ridden’ journals she had kept from the time.

“It’s been 40 years,” she said.

According to People, Ford was given a heads-up about Fisher’s new book, The Princess Diarist, which will include entries about the affair and received a draft copy, but he didn’t respond to the magazine’s request for comment.

Fisher writes that she was wracked by self-doubt after spending her first night with Ford, following a birthday party for George Lucas.

“I looked over at Harrison. A hero’s face — a few strands of hair fell over his noble, slightly furrowed brow,” she writes.

“How could you ask such a shining specimen of a man to be satisfied with the likes of me?”.

However she now looks back on the romance fondly.

“I was so inexperienced, but I trusted something about him,” she said. “He was kind.”
