Cate Blanchett's choice of dress at this year's Oscars has divided opinion.
Cate Blanchett's Givenchy Haute Couture gown that she wore to Sunday's Academy Awards has come in for both praise and severe criticism by journalists, bloggers and Twitter users, reports the UK's Metro newspaper.Blanchett's pastel lavender gown designed by Ricardo Tisci turned heads and raised eyebrows on the red carpet. Some fans of the actress raved about the 'daring' nature of the selection, whilst others branded it "awful". The gown featured a 'cut-out' frame on the front, which according to the Metro looked like "the back of a well upholstered chair" adding that shoulders "bordered on sci-fi". However, the newspaper was generally complimentary of the 41-year-old's bold statement, saying, "It was an edgy and fashion forward look that only someone as beautiful as Blanchett could carry off". Natalie Portman and Nicole Kidman were criticised for their dresses, as were Florence Welch and Helena Bonham Carter. Fashion critics were almost unanimous in their decision to tag 'Black Swan' star Mila Kunis the evening's 'Best Dressed'. The 27-year-old donned a lilac Elie Saab dress that wowed photographers and fans alike.
Cate Blanchett will soon begin filming the highly anticipated new Noah Baumbach movie 'While We're Young' about a documentary filmmaker and his wife who befriend a free-spirited couple. The movie also stars James Franco and Ben Stiller and is expected to hit cinemas in 2012.
