Production designer for 'The Great Gatsby' Catherine Martin discusses the movie in an interview. She talks about difficulties in creating costumes, taking souvenirs and dressing up actors.
'The thing that was most challenging about the costuming was to get inside. characters' heads that you don't naturally connect with for whatever reason', she explains and expands on the challenges of the movie by saying the scariest thing is 'when you allow yourself to stand on the precipice of the enormity of the task ahead.' She says that she tries to avoid taking souvenirs from the set home due to not using them again. 'Always the best record of what you've done is the movie itself', she says. She also explains that all actors are fun to work with: 'I've just been extremely blessed through my career whether it's Nicole [Kidman] or Carey [Mulligan]. or the boys. they all have incredible work ethic', she says. 'We did have a few laughs over the pink suit [for Leonardo DiCaprio's character]'.
