He appeared alongside some of the other still living 'Dad's Army' veterans, such as Ian Lavender, who returned in the film as Brigadier Pritchard, and Frank Williams who reprised his role as the Reverend Timothy Farthing.

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones have decided to take "some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage." Following rumours of the couple's separation, Zeta Jones' representative announced today (28th August) that the couple are spending time apart. This decision was apparently made after Douglas returned from the Cannes Film Festival in May.

There is a 26 year age difference between the two actors although this does not appear to have been a factor in their decision to separate. Michael Douglas claims he got cancer from oral sex, and helped cured it the same way.
Michael Douglas, the legendary American actor and star of Steven Soderbergh's new movie Behind The Candelabra, claims he got throat cancer through oral sex. When asked whether he regrets his years of heavy drinking and smoking - the usual causes of cancer - Douglas told the Guardian, "No. Because without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV [human papillomavirus], which actually comes about from cunnilingus." Err, ok.
Bizarrely, the Oscar winner, who is married to Catherine Zeta-Jones, went on to claim that oral sex was also the best cure for it, "I did worry if the stress caused by my son's incarceration didn't help trigger it. But yeah, it's a sexually transmitted disease that causes cancer. And if you have it, cunnilingus is also the best cure for it." Celebrity GP Dr Drew Pinsky praised the actor for the interview, tweeting, "Very courageous, will help reduce the risk for others," though other professionals remained sceptical. Mahesh Kumar, a London-based head and neck surgeon, said, "It has been established beyond reasonable doubt that the HPV type 16 is the causative agent in oropharyngeal cancer. Maybe he thinks that more exposure to the virus will boost his immune system. But medically, that just doesn't make sense."
Douglas' representative denied that the actor made a specific link between cancer and oral sex, saying, "He did not say this was the cause of his cancer. In a discussion of oral cancer, he said this is one of the suspected causes. He never made it personal."

While this thriller plays with themes of political ethics and ambition, it merely lets them simmer in the background. Director Hughes is clearly much more interested in macho posturing and the convoluted scandal-based plot, so he lets the cast members merrily chomp on the scenery but neglects to give us anything that engages our brains.
The broken city of the title is New York, where Mayor Hostetler (Crowe) covered up a shooting involving cop Billy (Walhberg) to protect himself seven years ago. Acquitted but disgraced, Billy is now working as a low-rent private detective when the mayor calls in a favour. He hires Billy to find out who his wife (Zeta-Jones) is having an affair with before it derails his re-election campaign against the passionate rising-star Valliant (Pepper). It doesn't take Billy long to get the incriminating photos, but clearly there's something much bigger at stake here, so he continues to investigate the situation, which uncovers such high-reaching corruption that Billy's life is in danger.
Demonstrating how little the film cares about its characters, Billy's long-time girlfriend (Martinez) is dispatched suddenly after a series of arguments during which she refuses to put up with his boorish, chauvinistic stupidity. Why she stuck with him this long is the real question. But this and other eccentric relationships in the plot are much more interesting than the dull property-development boondoggle that Hughes instead decided to focus on. The problem is that this leaves Wahlberg with the only remotely complex character, an intriguing mess of a man who overreacts wildly to everything and yet seems to want to do the right thing.

Steven Soderbergh’s Side Effects stars Channing Tatum and Rooney Mara and is another fine example of Soderbergh’s masterful storytelling. Fans of Soderbergh will do well to relish this one as it may be his last. The director has said that he’s tired of making films now and may well make Side Effects his last effort. The movies has garnered a slew of great reviews and could well out to be the most respected role that Channing Tatum has been attached to, for quite some time.
Side Effects is a thriller, telling the tale of a suicidal wife, a husband just out of jail, an under-pressure psychiatrist and the troubles with personality-suppressing drugs. Performances from Catherine Zeta Jones and Jude Law supplement those of the central characters. As is typical with Soderbergh’s movies (Traffic, A Scanner Darkly), the plot is many-faceted and eventually, the dramatic potential of the movie explodes. Kenneth Turan, writing for Los Angeles Times explains “It would ruin the fun to detail exactly what kind of hell, but rest assured this top-notch cast has great fun working out all the fiendish ramifications of this potboiler plot. If this does prove to be Soderbergh's final film — and I wouldn't hold my breath — he picked a heck of a one to go out on.
The movie has racked up a highly respectable score of 82% on Rotten Tomatoes – usually a decent indicator of how a film will fare. Side Effects is in US movie theaters this weekend.

Steven Soderberg's psychological thriller Side Effects - his final movie before retiring from movie directing - is winning high praise from critics. The movie - boasting an all-star cast including Jude Law, Channing Tatum, Rooney Mara and Catherine Zeta-Jones - follows a successful New York couple whose world unravels when a new drug prescribed by Emily's psychiatrist has unexpected side effects. Ok, so it might sound a little bit too much like Soderbergh's 2011 thriller Contagion, but give it chance.
The general consensus amongst critics is that Side Effects is a little silly in places, though great fun, with dashes of genius. A.O Scott of the New York Times said, "While the plot may be predictable (and more than a little preposterous) in retrospect, Mr. Soderbergh handles it brilliantly, serving notice once again that he is a crackerjack genre technician." Roger Ebert paid homage to the director, writing in the Chicago Sun-Times, "Soderbergh came, he saw, he conquered, and now he's moving on." Peter Travers of Rolling Stone continued the high praise, writing, "Side Effects is a hell of a thriller, twisty, terrific and packed with surprises you don't see coming," while other critics praised Soderbergh's slick filmmaking and storytelling techniques. All-in-all, it's pretty good news for the director on his final outing.
The film's screenwriter Scott Z. Burns spoke to the Huffington Post of Soderbergh's decision to leave Hollywood behind and concentrate on his painting. "It's a little bit heartbreaking, for all sorts of selfish reasons.If he doesn't come back, it'll be because the other things are so rewarding for him that he doesn't need to come back," he said.

Broken City, starring Mark Wahlberg, has been shoved into the highly unpopular January release slot, and it isn’t hard to see why.
Though it has all the potential to be good – a moderately interesting storyline, a solid cast – let’s not forget that Wahlberg’s last big release was the Seth McFarlane flick Ted, and that was received very well by critics and fans alike. But despite being good “on paper”, Broken City falls flat eventually. According to most reviewers, the biggest problem with this film is its ambition. The plot, albeit intriguing, is too complex to fit well into the under two-hour time frame, and it all rings just a bit shallow.
The story of an ex-cop, turned private investigator Billy Taggart, with all of its subplots and character moments could have been a compelling one, had it not been for most of those subplots being cut short and thus, rendered inexplicable. This way, without understanding the characters’ motivation, it all seems a bit rushed and shallow. Then again, it has Catherine Zeta-Jones and Russel Crowe in it, so it might be worth a watch, even just for the beautiful people on screen. However, if you’re only going to see one film this January, it probably shouldn’t be this one.
With Jessica Chastain nominated for an Oscar for her role in Zero Dark Thirty. Her presence in Mama, alone, should be enough to generate interest in Guillermo Del Toro’s latest supernatural thriller. Anyone expecting a Zero Dark Thirty-style action drama, though, will be sorely disappointed. And possibly a little scared.
Chastain plays the role of Annabel, a woman who welcomes her partner’s abandoned nieces into her home. They are traumatised and clearly disturbed. Annabel seems unsure whether or not she’s ready to look after them. Little does she know, however, that she’s opened the doors of her home to more than just the two young girls, who disappeared the day that their mother was murdered by their father. More of a psychological horror than a guts-n-gore kind of movie, del Toro knows exactly how to get inside the viewer’s mind and linger there, with his superb use of special effects and the kind of suspense tactics that will require the surgical removal of your fingers from the cinema seat by the time the movie’s over.

With a cast boasting some of the greats of the past couple of decades, from Mark Wahlberg to Russell Crowe and Catherine Zeta-Jones, it would be more than acceptable to be a little excited about Broken City, despite the plot about corrupt politics and general scandal having been done before, and done to death. However, with just an 18% fresh rating on review aggregate RottenTomatoes, clearly it's very, very rotten.
Set in New York City, Wahlberg plays an ex-cop who is tasked with following the Mayor's Wife (Zeta-Jones, Crowe is the mayor) only to uncover a scandal in the process. THR note that it "Would have made for a fine film noir 60 years ago but feels rather contrived and unbelievable in the setting of contemporary New York." Crowe's portrayal of the mayor is dated, not to the fault of the actor, per se, but because the script calls for him to offer visitors a scotch on arrival. "Who was the last mayor of New York City to automatically offer a Scotch to every visitor to enter his office?" The review asks, "You'd probably have to go [a long way] back."
The NY Times agrees with the noir assertion, explaining that director Allen Hughes (Book of Eli) "has painted NYC a darker shade of noir." The Times it impressed with neither the screenplay nor the cinematography saying that the script is "weak" and describes the cameras as "restless and prowling". Village Voice also agrees with them all, considering the production and direction poor, "The actors look generally unhappy to be here, most of all Crowe, who seems even more miserable than he did in Les Misérables." Overall it seems, the general consensus is to simply not bother watching it.
The latest trailer for the upcoming Rock of Ages movie adaption gives us much more to contemplate as the June 15th release date draws ever closer. The upcoming musical comedy features hits from the likes of Def Leppard, Joan Jett, Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister and Whitesnake to name but a few.

In The Terminal, Spielberg gives us Hanks as Viktor Navorski, a visitor from the fictitious country of Krakhozia in Eastern Europe. Hanks, made up to be pasty and lumpy, puts on a mush-mouthed accent reminiscent of Yakov Smirnoff, and finds himself landing at New York's JFK on a mission we won't discover until the end of the film. We know only that it involves a Planters peanut can.

To understand how completely, contemptibly and cavalierly DreamWorks has gutted the Arabian legend of Sinbad for its every-cliché-in-the-book animated adaptation "Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas," all you need know is one line of dialogue, delivered by the hero in a feeble attempt at outdated hip-hop dialect:
"Who's baaad?...Sinbad!"
The fact that this line is delivered by an appallingly miscast Brad Pitt as the voice of a Santa-Monica-beach-bum-looking Sinbad only makes it worse.

"Traffic" is a socially and politically grandstanding soap opera about the narcotics trade and the futility of the "war on drugs." It's a film about how that war is propagated by bureaucratic demagogues in the United States government, not because they think they can stem the flow of illegal substances but because they think saying they want to is a way to win elections.
OK. Point taken.
"Traffic" is also gritty and realistic feat of cinematic logistics, following no less than 15 major characters (and more than 50 speaking parts) through several complex, well-acted storylines about all sides of the drug trade -- from kingpins to cops to policy wonks to addicts. So my hat is off to the picture's ever-brilliant director, Steven Soderbergh ("Erin Brockovich"), who certainly does a fine juggling act, involving the audience in every story on a personal level.
