Celine Dion Muppets Role Scripted With Her In Mind

Celine Dion's role in the 'Muppets Most Wanted' was scripted with her in mind.

The film which stars children's favourites Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Animal and Fozzy Bear among others, has a number of A-List cameo appearances, including Salma Hayek, Tom Hiddleston and Usher, and director James Bobin insists the roles were written specifically for these celebrities, before they officially agreed to appear in the film.

He said: ''Largely we write those roles in the script. Often we even write the name of the particular person. What we find, is that because there's a great love for the Muppets the people we ask tend to say yes. Which is really rare.

Muppets Most Wanted Review

Good

Where the 2011 reboot felt effortless in the way it recaptured that warmly anarchic Muppets humour, this sequel feels like it's working every step of the way. Yes, it's riotously silly and occasionally hilarious, but there are large chunks of the movie that just aren't funny at all, mainly because there's so much emphasis on the tangled web of a plot that the characters get lost in the shuffle.

It starts just as the last movie ended: the Muppets decide to do a sequel based on an idea from interloper Dominic (Ricky Gervais) to take their show on a world tour. But Dominic is actually in league with super-villain frog Constantine (Matt Vogel), who has just escaped from a gulag. So when the Muppet Show lands in Berlin, he orchestrates a swap: Constantine takes Kermit's place in the show, while Kermit (Steve Whitmire) is sent to Siberia under the watchful eye of guard Nadya (Tina Fey). Meanwhile, Interpol agent Jean-Pierre (Burrell) and CIA operative Sam Eagle (Eric Jacobson) are investigating a series of robberies mysteriously linked to Muppet performances in Berlin, Madrid and Dublin.

All of this builds to a head in London, where Constantine is staging an elaborate wedding to Miss Piggy (Jacobson) to distract from his real plan to steal the Crown Jewels. But this plot-strand feels predictable and limp compared to much more interesting character interaction. For example, scenes between Kermit and Fey are a lot more fun as they plan a musical revue with the inmates (and get Trejo and Liotta sing and dance!). And the escalating banter between Sam Eagle and Burrell is hilarious even as it indulges in cheap Euro-jokes.

As usual though, things are not about to run smoothly for these trouble magnets as they are forced to postpone their tour when Kermit becomes under suspicion for robbery. It's bad luck for him that there's another frog in town - the formidable Constantine, who organises a jewel heist with the knowledge that he may evade capture because of his unwitting doppelganger. Constantine tries to pretend he's Kermit amongst the other Muppets in an effort to evade detection while Kermit gets locked up, but will they realise their mistake in time to release their real friend and finish their tour?

Celine Dion Plans To Bounce Back From Album Disappointment With New Single And 'The Voice' Appearance

Celine Dion Carrie Underwood

Celine Dion came back with a bang with her powerful single 'Loved Me Back to Life' and album of the same name, but whilst the album and single drew considerable buzz when it was released in October, people seem to have forgotten about Dion without much hassle. In a bid to rejuvenate interest in her singing and her first English-language record for six year, the Canadian singer is planning a double whammy just before Christmas.

Celine Dion
Celine Dion released her third single, 'Incredible,' earlier this week

Having already heard the lead single form the album, Dion will give people another chance to hear what her album has to offer when she performs her collaborative effort with Ne-Yo, called 'Incredible,' on the season finale of The Voice. The pair will perform the mid-tempo album track on the Tuesday (17 December) finale, which airs on NBC 9 p.m. (ET/PT). As well as releasing the track as her third single from the album, Dion won't be done with the festive giving just there, as she also has another TV performance lined up after her appearance on The Voice.

Celine Dion - Loved Me Back To Life Album Review

There are some artists who genuinely need no introduction and, regardless of your opinion of her, Celine Dion is one of them.  Responsible for one of the biggest selling songs of all time, her catalogue includes 25 studio albums which contribute toward a reported sales figure numbering over 220 million.  She has recently resumed her residency at Las Vegas' Caesar's Palace, which began in 2011 and remarkably runs through to the second half of 2014.

Celine Dion - Loved Me Back To Life Album Review

Opening with the title track, 'Loved Me Back To Life' is not immediately recognisable as Dion, partially because she doesn't immediately throw in her powerful vocals.  The major difference lays in the musical style - whilst orchestral strings are present, this is a brooding number driven with a patient rhythm section.  It fails to develop though, instead feeling like more of an intro number into 'Somebody Love Somebody', a track full of false attitude and clumsy chorus lines, topped off by an annoying vocal hook.  An unlikely collaboration with Ne-Yo follows and takes the shape of a soft R'n'B ballad on which the latter more than holds his own for a likeable if unspectacular number.  'Breakaway' sees her in familiar territory, an emotive song driven by piano and on which she doesn't hold back, culminating in a window-shattering crescendo.

Turning to rock influences, 'Save Your Soul' sees formulaic chords churned out ineffectively, but 'Didn't Know Love' provides a tender and likeable moment on which Dion strikes the right balance between passion and warbling.  It is the first of a trio of songs on which consistent quality is found, with 'Thank You' following a similar mood and built on some enjoyable piano melodies.  Star billing is shared with Stevie Wonder on 'Overjoyed', a lifting soul piece on which the duo trade lines seamlessly.  It is the last time on which 'Loved Me Back To Life' impresses, a shame given that at this point some momentum was building, but the closing quartet find Dion fulfilling preconceptions of her music.  In particular, 'Always Be Your Girl' is the type of schmooze she is famed for, complete with overblown final chorus featuring obligatory key change.  It is when she utilises her talents in this overbearing manner that her output is off-putting, thankfully though it is kept in check on a decent amount of this album.

Britney Spears Returns With "Britney Jean", Celebrates With Upcoming Vegas Residency

Britney Spears Celine Dion

It’s Britney, b***h. Sorry, that was a bit aggressive, but rather appropriate for the occasion. Spears returns with her eighth studio album, Britney Jean, finally released in full (five days ahead of schedule). Despite the club-appropriate dance tunes on this album, it isn’t getting the kind of promotion of her previous records, nor the same love. Spears has also opted out of a full tour schedule to promote Britney Jean, choosing instead to incorporate the songs into the shows from her Las Vegas residency.

Britney Spears, Britney Jean Cover
Britney Jean is on top of the world, with a new album and a two-year residency ahead of her.

Her two-year residency at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas is quite a financially secure gig for the once troubled pop star. With 48 90-minute shows per year, created to span her entire career Spears joins the likes of Celine Dion, Olivia Newton-John, Carlos Santana and Rod Stewart, among others. According to Jason Gastwirth, senior vice president for marketing and entertainment at Caesars Entertainment, which owns Planet Hollywood, speaking for Businessweek, Britney is rather unique within that crowd.

Celine Dion Death Hoax Lures In Gullible Facebook Users

Celine Dion

If the Celine Dion death hoax can teach us anything, its this: don’t trust everything you read online, kids. A status, claiming that the 'My Heart Will Go On' singer had died in a plane crash started circulating social networks sometime last week, being spread around by two rogue Facebook apps, according to About.com.

The apps cited false reports by CNN and Fox News. The one by CNN reportedly read: "Hollywood Breaking News - R.I.P Celine Dion At about 11 a.m. ET on Sunday (October 20, 2013), Celine Dion died in a plane crash. The culprit for the story is Global Associated, aka Mediafetcher. 'Celine Dion presumed dead in private plane crash', Global claims that Celine died today at 'Denver Peak-Regional Airport."

For the record, there was no plane crash and as far as anyone knows, Ms Dion is alive and well. But there was another report, which the apps claimed was by Fox News, also claiming that the star had died. It said, "Investigators have told reporters that Celine Dion lost control while driving a friend's vehicle on Interstate 80 and rolled the vehicle several times killing her instantly. The vehicle was believed to have been traveling at approximately 95 miles per hour in a 55mph zone at the time of the accident".

AEG Man Claims Celine Dion Is Bigger Than Michael Jackson. Which Is Just Wrong

Michael Jackson Celine Dion

A top executive for AEG Live has managed to turn the farcical Michael Jackson trial into an absolute circus by claiming the Canadian singer Celine Dion is a "bigger" artist than the late King of Pop ever was.

Testifying at the long-running wrongful death trial, John Meglin downplayed Jackson's lawyers claim that the singer would have earned $1.5 billion touring the world, according to CNN.

Meglin, who has been a concert promoter since the 1970s, was the first witness called to the stand as AEG Live began its defense in the thirteenth week of the trial. Much of his testimony focused on ridiculing accountant Arthur Much's claims that Jackson would have played 260 shows around the world as part of his This Is It tour, earning $890 million plus more in endorsements and sponsorships before his 66th birthday.

Could The Bright Lights Of Las Vegas Be Calling Britney Spears?

Britney Spears Jason Trawick Celine Dion

In a bid to turn around her ill fortunes, Britney Spears will be taking on a Las Vegas residency expected to net her millions of dollars, according to a report from TMZ.

The gossip site had already reported that Spears recently split from her partner Jason Trawick (who also acted as co-conservator in her financial issues and was previously her agent). Spears also announced recently that she would not be returning to her role as a judge on X Factor, having completed her first season in the role.

A source close to Britney told TMZ that the Vegas show that she may have lined up will “eclipse” the kind of money that Celine Dion raked in with her show – and we’re talking $100 million per year for Celine, so the show’s promoters must truly believe that Britney can still get the cash registers ringing. “The deal is a go. There are several stipulations that could throw a monkey wrench in the deal, but it's basically done." The deal is being negotiated with the Caesar group – one of the biggest promoters on the strip and if it’s secured – providing that Britney can keep everything in order whilst the show’s on – will be a huge money-earner for the ‘Toxic’ singer.

Whitney Houston's Family Helped By 'The Houstons: On Our Own'

Whitney Houston R Kelly Celine Dion

For many, a new reality TV show that follows the family's every move wouldn't be an ideal way to aid the grieving process after a dramatic death, but for Whitney Houston's family, 'The Houstons: On Our Own' has been a great help.

"The show has kept the family close together, (instead of) isolated from one another. We talk about things, we are very open, and we pay attention to the ones who need consoling the most. Doing the show certainly has helped in a huge way," Pat Houston, Whitney's manager and sister-in-law, told Reuters. "There are preconceptions about the family that just aren't true. We are a strong family, a working family, and a typical family. Our family member just happens to be an icon," she added. "You will see a family that is grieving, that loves one another. You will see a family that is trying to move on."

The reality TV show makes its debut this Wednesday (October, 24) and will set the stage for a November of tributes to the troubled singer, who tragically passed away earlier on in 2012 after drowning in the bathtub, having taken cocaine. Upcoming projects include an official glossy book of photos, a compilation album of Houston's biggest hits that features a new duet version of "I Look To You" with R. Kelly, and the November 16 TV broadcast of a special Grammy tribute starring Jennifer Hudson, Usher and Celine Dion.
