Baasit’s brother Raza Siddiqui had uploaded a photo of the three dressed in camouflage during a paint balling game to Facebook with the caption, “Isis training day, look how happy we look!” While friends of the family then also made jokes in the comments, one user reported the image to police.

Speaking to The Independent, a spokesperson for Derbyshire Police said: "A member of the public contacted us after a photo of three men at a paintball centre in Derbyshire was uploaded to Facebook, referring to the so-called Islamic State terror group.

"We have examined the photograph and are satisfied that the caption was not intended to be taken seriously, and there was no link to terrorism whatsoever. We will be offering suitable words of advice to those who uploaded it; however, no offences have been committed and there will be no further police action.”

A representative for Gogglebox told the Independent: “The Siddiquis are aware that this post was misjudged and have apologised for their mistake. It will not affect their position on Gogglebox.”

On twitter Baasit Siddiqui later apologised for his brother’s post, writing: “The image on Facebook was meant to be light-hearted but was clearly a joke that was misjudged. We are extremely sorry for any offence caused.”

The Siddiqui family, father Sid and children Baasit and Umar, have been appearing on the Channel 4 show since its first series in 2013. Baasit is an IT teacher and Umar is a microbiologist at the Royal Derbyshire Hospital. Raza has made brief appearances on the show in the past, but isn't a regular on the sofa.
