The 71-year-old actor thinks 'Game of Thrones' is a "fantastic series".
'Game of Thrones' is without a doubt one of the most popular television shows of all time. Bringing together a wealth of brilliant characters, played by some of the most talented actors of the small screen, the show has presented incredibly memorable storylines with shocking twists around every corner.
Charles Dance starred as Tywin Lannister in four seasons of 'Game of Thrones'
Back in the show's fourth season, Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance) was wiped out of the show by his own son, Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage). Though that meant Dance's time working on the series came to an end, it doesn't mean he feels bitter about the show at all. In fact, he'd like to return in the future.
Right now at HBO, five ideas for spin-offs are being developed. Whilst that doesn't mean all five will make it to broadcast, it does open up a wealth of opportunity for everybody involved. It also means that those who have died in episodes gone by, may be able to come back if any of the spin-offs are a prequel, taking place in the same sort of timeline.
Dance is somebody who'd be up for returning, with the actor telling Metro: "If it was in the same calibre, yes. Because 'Game Of Thrones' really was as good as it gets. It’s a fantastic series. I look back on it fondly.
"Occasionally you have long days in the cold, the horse doesn’t behave properly, or the armour sticks in the back of your neck, but we’re not down in the mines digging for coal, we’re actors. We’re pretending for everything, and we’re very lucky to be able to do that."
It would certainly be interesting to delve a little more deeply into the world the Lannisters helped build in 'Game of Thrones', with writers able to investigate exactly how their family came together and worked their way to the top, and the Iron Throne.
A prequel would likely however have to find an entirely new actor to take on the role of Tywin, as otherwise a whole host of actors already involved in 'Game of Thrones' would have to sign up to take on their characters once more. We imagine that's something creators are hoping to steer away from, bringing new layers to Westeros and the lands beyond through the planned spin-offs.
