Charli XCX cancelled five upcoming shows due to ''things going on in my personal life that I need to deal with''.

The 22-year-old pop star - whose real name is Charlotte Aitchison - announced on Sunday (31.05.15) that she would not be appearing at a number of planned shows in the US in mid-August and has taken to social media to explain the decision in a now-deleted post.

According to the Miami Herald newspaper, the 'Boom Clap' hitmaker said: ''I am very sorry to have let you down, and also to have let down any promotors at such short notice, but there are some things going on in my personal life that I need to deal with right now (sic)''

She also tweeted: ''I'm sorry angels... :( I'm really sad about this :( (sic)''

What's more, Charli took to Instagram to extend her apologies to her fans, saying she was sorry to let them down.

The British singer/songwriter said: ''Dear angels, I am so sorry but I'm going to have to cancel five shows in Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale, Indy, Firefly and Norfolk.

''I am so sorry to have to let any of you down. Due to personal reasons I cannot play those shows. I will be back soon. I love you all, Charli.''
