Charli XCX shares what she describes as "probably the most sexy song I’ve ever made" with her latest single - 'Baby'. The ultra-catchy new track follows Charli's recent hook-up with Rina Sawayama on their collaboration 'Beg For You'. Both songs will feature on Charli's new album - 'Crash', which is due for release on March 18th.
Charli recently spoke to Zane Lowe for Apple Music and told him that 'Baby' is about "sex and sexuality and having good sex and just feeling yourself essentially. I know that that’s the tone. I knew that that was the tone I wanted to carry across for the entire record. This kind of hyper-sexualised, feminine power zone was where I was feeling myself going, and 'Baby’ was the genesis of this.”
Charli explained that 'Baby' was "kind of the foundation of the vibe of the album". The 'Boom Clap' hit maker went on to say - "So Baby was actually one of the first songs that came together for this album. I was working on it with Justin Raisen, and we'd done a lot together for my first ever album, 'True Romance'. So it kind of felt cyclical to go back and with him again on what is my final record in my deal with Atlantic".
In the video to accompany Charli's new track she is joined by two dancers in a carefully choreographed sequence that sees Charli strut her stuff in a black leather two piece. Talking about the video, Charli XCX said - "I wanted to challenge myself on the choreo for this song, which was really, really tough and I have so much respect for dancers, professional dancers, anyone who communicates emotion through dance. It is so hard and challenging, but so rewarding".
Reacting to a misconstrued comment as the video premiered Charli said - "If u wanna throw around midlife crisis f**king throw it at me. I’m getting older, I’m getting hotter, my tits are stunning, I’m in great shape, I’m dancing, I’m progressing and I’m living my best life – and that the tea". She also added that dancing in the video for 'Baby' was "totally my choice and one of the most liberating and fun decisions I’ve ever made".
'Crash' is due out on March 18th via Asylum?Atlantic; Warner UK.
