Charlie Simpson doesn't get "excited" by "new heavy music".

The Fightstar singer has recorded his debut solo album, 'Young Pilgrim', which moves away from the band's heavy Roots to a more folk and Americana influenced sound, and he admits he doesn't listen to much heavy music anymore.

He told BANG Showbiz: "I haven't heard that much new, new heavy music which has excited me. I don't listen to as much heavy, heavy stuff now as I used to.

"I still love heavy, like Deftones, music which isn't necessarily heavy but is heavy in tone.

"It is a real challenge to make something heavy without it actually being heavy in nature, like not relying on really distorted guitars to make it heavy. For Example Sigur Ros are heavy with such powerful waves of sound."

Charlie also explained The Influence of film scores on Fightstar's last album, 'Be Human', saying they approached it like a soundtrack.

He added: "I do love classical music, I don't listen to that much of it at home, but what I really love is filmic music, and a lot of my favourite scores, by people like John Williams, are very much orchestral based.

"The influence on 'Be Human' was very much filmic rather than really orchestra. We were thinking of the songs in a kind of cinematic way, like we were almost thinking up a fake film and putting the music around it."

Charlie Simpson will take part in the Cadbury Spots v Stripes Minute To Win It festival tour at Boardmasters in Newquay toady (12.08.11). The ITV2 game show 'Minute To Win IT', in association with Cadbury Spots v Stripes hits screens in the Autumn.
