The girls, who are being mentored by Rita Ora, were whittled down to six during Sunday night’s ‘X-Factor’.
‘X-Factor’ judge Rita Ora had a tough time on Sunday night’s edition of the ITV talent show. The singer, who is new to the judging panel this year, had to decide which six contestants would make it to the judge’s houses round during the show’s tense Six Chair Challenge.
Rita Ora has picked her six girls to take to the judge’s houses.
Ora has been given the Girls category to mentor this series, with Nick Grimshaw taking the Boys, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini the Groups and Simon Cowell (much to his disgust) getting the Over-25s. This year (for the first time ever) the judges’ categories were chosen by public vote.

Meghan Trainor, Jess Glynne and Mark Ronson are the other celebrity guests helping the judges select who goes through to the live rounds.
ITV has announced some pretty major names from the pop world as guests for the judges’ houses stage of ‘The X Factor’ over the next few weeks, the biggest of which is former alumnus of the show Louis Tomlinson who’ll be assisting Simon Cowell.
23 year old Tomlinson, who finished in third place on ‘The X Factor’ with One Direction back in 2010, will be helping Cowell choose which singers from the “overs” category will be going through to the live shows later in the series. Tomlinson will be replacing Cowell’s regular aide Sinitta in the chair, and ends speculation linking former judge Louis Walsh with the role.

The music manager has said he’d only return to the show if it was a ‘fun panel’.
After being axed from the ‘X-Factor’ after 11 years, Louis Walsh has hit out at the show’s new judging panel and in particular DJ Nick Grimshaw. But despite no longer being on the series, the 63 year old has said he still tunes into ITV every Saturday and thinks the show's ratings will improve.
Louis Walsh isn't enjoying the new ‘X-Factor’ judging panel.
“I’m not sure about Grimshaw. I haven’t seen much of him," Walsh told the Daily Star. "People don’t like change and I think they miss Dermot and maybe some people miss me. The new panel needs time to bed in.”

Why is the revamped ‘X-Factor’ just not bringing in the viewers this year?
The ‘X-Factor’ has enjoyed a slight ratings boost in its third week of series 12, with 7.55 million viewers tuning into ITV on Saturday evening. However the numbers are still significantly lower than last year's and the show is yet to go had-to-head with BBC One’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, which begins in two weeks.
Ratings for the ‘X-Factor’ have been low this series despite a new judging panel.
According to The Mirror, 7.55 million watched the show live on ITV at 8pm, and then a further 359,000 caught the episode on the ITV+1 channel. However this time last year the show was pulling in 8.43 million on ITV and a further 441,000 viewers an hour later.
She struck back at media commentators and Twitter trolls who have been criticising her weight loss.
Cheryl Fernandez-Versini has hit back at people in the media commenting on her weight loss, describing body-shaming as “bull****” and calling for it to be outlawed.
Since the 32 year old pop star began promo work last week ahead of her return to ITV’s ‘The X Factor’ last weekend, many fans have expressed concern via Twitter, including no small amount of trolls, and a series of stories about her weight have appeared in the press in that time.

The music mogul has been given the over-25s to mentor again.
The ‘X-Factor’ judges have been given their categories for this year, with Simon Cowell mentoring the Over-25s for the second year in a row. For the first time ever, this series the fans were given the opportunity to select the judges’ categories, with a vote taking place on twitter over the weekend.
Simon Cowell will mentor the Over-25s again this year.
Cheryl Fernandez-Versini was given the Groups, after mentoring the Girls last year, while new judge Nick Grimshaw will mentor the Boys and fellow newbie Rita Ora will take the Girls. After the categories were announced Cheryl expressed her excitement on twitter writing, ‘I GOT THE GROUPSSSSS!!! I am so excited !!’
'The X Factor' judge's legal team are striving to get the offending video taken down, but it has already tallied over a million views.
‘X Factor’ judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini is believed to be considering legal action in response to a fake sex tape that’s appeared online featuring her name and likeness. The X-rated video, featuring her head superimposed onto the body of an adult entertainer, has racked up over a million views.
It is believed that efforts are under way to get the video, entitled ‘Cheryl Cole Fake Sex Video’, taken down from the free-to-use website Pornhub. But, with such exposure already, 32 year old Cheryl fears that it has done serious damage to her family-friendly image as some fans may believe that the footage is genuine.

The ITV talent show suffered a huge drop in ratings on Saturday night and claims that girlband Fourth Power weren't amateurs.
‘The X-Factor’ returned to UK screens on ITV, Saturday night (August 29th), with a revamped judging panel which doesn't seem to have proved a hit with viewers. The talent show scored a record low rating for it’s series premiere, as well as fan backlash over a girl group who have already released records.
According to The Mirror, the revamped show only brought in 7.11m viewers, a drop of nearly two million from last year's launch show. The numbers are the lowest ever launch ratings for the show, since 2012 when 8.62m tuned in.
The talent show returns to our screens this Saturday (August 29th).
‘X-Factor’ viewers have been granted even more power this year, as for the first time ever they’ll be the ones choosing which category each judge will mentor. Voting will open during the show’s first episode this Saturday on ITV and will take place on twitter.
The ‘X-Factor’ judges will have their categories picked for them thanks to a viewer vote.
Viewers will be able to vote by using the hashtag with the name of a judge and the category they want to see them mentor, for example #CherylBoys #CherylGirls #CherylGroups #SimonOvers. Voting closes at 12pm on Tuesday 1 September.

The former Girls Aloud singer was not happy to hear the dreaded ‘c-word’ during the recent London auditions.
New ‘X-Factor’ judge Nick Grimshaw may have gotten on wrong side of colleague Cheryl Fernandez-Versini already, when he called the singer by her former married name of Cheryl Cole. The slip up occurred during the London round of auditions for the talent show which took place at Wembley earlier this week.
Nick Grimshaw mistakenly called Cheryl by her former married name.
According to fans in attendance Grimshaw referred to the Geordie singer as Cheryl Cole when asking for her opinion after an audition. Cheryl is said to have snapped back, 'It's Cheryl or Chezza!’
She announced in June that she was leaving 'The Voice' to join the ITV reality singing contest instead, but has spoken about her decision for the first time today.
New judge on ‘The X Factor’ Rita Ora has revealed that she couldn’t say no to Simon Cowell’s offer once she had heard about the organisers’ new plans for the reality TV show, and that it was this that was the primary factor in her decision to leave ‘The Voice’.
The 24 year old hitmaker spoke to Lorraine Kelly on the British morning chat show ‘Lorraine’ about her high-profile network switch from the BBC to ITV, saying that she just wanted “to be a part of it” when she heard about the new ideas.

The new judge was unable to ignore a particularly difficult review of her new job
The appointment of Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw to this year’s X Factor has definitely divided opinion but what cannot be denied is that their addition has created a lot of publicity for the talent show.
Rita Ora as a new X Factor judge has not been warmly received by everyone
Good and bad, there have been a lot of thoughts and viewpoints over popstar Ora and radio DJ Grimshaw taking the two spare judges chairs but it seems that when it comes to really negative criticism, Rita Ora simply can’t ignore it.
The British pop star has reportedly reached a deal with ITV to leave 'The Voice' and judge on 'The X Factor' this year.
After weeks of speculation, it seems that Rita Ora has finally jumped ship from the BBC to ITV, according to insiders, and will be taking up a place on the judging panel of ‘The X Factor’, abandoning ‘The Voice’ in the process after just one year.
The Mirror reports that the 24 year old pop star has accepted the fourth and final judges’ spot, a week after it was suggested that she had been offered £1.5 million to replace the departing Mel B for the 2015 edition.

The departing 'X Factor' judge seems intent on revealing the behind-the-scenes rivalries on the long-running singing contest.
Louis Walsh has continued his public spat with his former colleague on ‘The X Factor’ Cheryl Fernandez-Versini by suggesting that she would refuse to be a panel judge alongside Nicole Scherzinger if the latter were to return.
Walsh has already been involved in a recent war of words with the ex-Girls Aloud star, branding her as “lazy” and “irrelevant” in an interview with Heat magazine on Tuesday last week. Cheryl had responded on Twitter by ridiculing Walsh as having an “obsession” with her. “Dear Lou Lou. Try using your mouth to say something positive about something positive,” she continued.

After eleven years as a judge on the ITV reality show, Walsh has stated that he hasn't been approached for the forthcoming series.
After weeks of speculation, Louis Walsh has confirmed that he will not be returning to ‘The X Factor’ later this year. The former Westlife manager and long-term judge on the popular ITV talent show will effectively be quitting after 11 years on the panel.
The 62 year old spoke to the Press Association on Wednesday and said: “The truth is I've done it for 11 years, I never thought I would even be on TV for four or five. To get ten was great, to get 11 was amazing, I'm not hanging around for them this year.”

The long time judge has said he’d have to really think about returning to the ITV talent show for a 12th season.
Louis Walsh’s time as an ‘X-Factor’ judge could be up, as the music manager has said he’s “done with the show”, after 11 seasons. The 62 year old made the comments during an appearance on the Seven O’Clock Show on Thursday, when he was asked about his future as a judge on the ITV talent show.
Louis Walsh has served as a judge on the ‘X-Factor’ for 11 years.
“I’m done with X Factor, honestly,” he told the hosts. "I’ve done 11 seasons - I don't think I'll be going back. That’s a long time in television. I think they’re going to change the show and get new faces.”

Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris are rumoured to be dating after they were spotted shopping together in Nashville.
Taylor Swift has been romantically linked to Calvin Harris after the two were spotted together on Wednesday (25th March). They were snapped food shopping together in Nashville and the pictures, taken by an amateur photographer at the scene, have gone viral. The two, both dressed in black and grey, are not showing any public signs of affection but they have reportedly been spotted together over the past month.

Not literally, but the former Girls Aloud star's name is linked to the most sites with malicious software lurking within them.
It’s official: Cheryl Cole is the most dangerous person on the internet. At least, according to McAfee, an online security software provider who have analysed which celebrities have the largest amount of malicious websites associated with their name.

Though Cheryl’s surname is now officially Fernandez-Versini, a much less memorable and, presumably, searchable handle following her second marriage this summer, her professional name still provides the biggest opportunity for hackers to exploit search terms.
Despite the return of Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole, 'The X-Factor' was unable to beat 'Strictly Come Dancing' in the ratings.
It is a battle that could have perhaps been avoided had either the BBC or ITV backed down and rescheduled, but Strictly Come Dancing and The X-Factor went head-to-head for the first time this year on Sunday, with the dancing reality show winning out. ITV will have hoped the return of Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell would have been enough to pip its rival - airing its first season without Bruce Forsyth - though it wasn't to be.
The return of Simon Cowell was not enough for The X-Factor to beat Strictly
Strictly returned with 8.4 million viewers on Sunday - a 33.7% share of the audience between 8pm and 9.15pm. The X-Factor had to settle for second place, with 7.6 million viewers and a 27.9% share between 8pm and 9.05pm.

'Crazy Stupid Love' equals a UK chart record
Cheryl Cole topped the UK Singles chart last night with her new single ‘Crazy Stupid Love’. It makes the former Girls Aloud star only the third British female solo act to score four UK number 1 singles, along with Geri Halliwell and Rita Ora.
Cheryl Cole, pictured here leaving Radio 1, scored her 4th UK Number 1 single
The single, which features a guest spot from London rapper Tinie Tempah, is the first to be taken from Cheryl’s upcoming album Only Human, scheduled for release at some point in November this year.
The occasion also marks another notable statistic – it means that Cheryl has scored number 1 hits with each of the leading singles from her four solo albums. Platinum single ‘Fight For This Love’ reached the top of the charts ahead of her debut full-length 3 Words back in 2009, as did ‘Promise This’ from Messy Little Raindrops a year later as well as ‘Call My Name’ from 2012’s A Million Lights.
The success of the new song caps off a remarkable few months for the singer. At the beginning of the month she announced her marriage to French restauranteur Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini, having tied the knot at a secret ceremony in Mustique. Back in March she also announced her return as a judge on the new series of ‘The X Factor’ coming later this year.

Cheryl Cole's personal and professional life could be going better as of late.
The newly married pop-star earned her fourth UK No.1 single on Sunday (July 27th) with her latest track 'Crazy Stupid Love,' featuring fellow Brit Tinie Tempah.
The chart topping song, from her fourth studio album 'Only Human,' is Cheryl's ninth No.1 in total, she previously earned the top spot with Girls Aloud on four separate occasions and once with an appearance on the 2010 charity cover of R.E.M.'s 'Everybody Hurts' for Helping Haiti.

'The X Factor' hasn't even begun, but tensions are already soaring as Cheryl Cole allegedly refuses to sit next to Louis Walsh on the judging panel.
Cheryl Cole is allegedly refusing to sit next to Irish entertainment manager Louis Walsh on The X Factor judging panel this year. Tensions have been mounting since Simon Cowell revealed in an interview that Cole didn’t want Walsh to return to the show, full stop.

Simon Cowell has said he would support his baby son if he chose a career in singing - although he'd be honest with him if he didn't have what it takes!
Simon Cowell has revealed that he would be happy for his four-month-old son to one day enter the entertainment industry. The Britain’s Got Talent judge has given his blessing should baby Eric one day decide to pursue a career in singing, although admitted he would tell him if the ambition wasn't achievable: “If Eric wants to try out being a singer, I would be okay with that. I certainly won’t stop him. But I’ll tell him straight if he can’t do it.” Showing signs that becoming a father really has softened Simon, he did add: “Admittedly, I might not be quite as blunt as I am with some of the contestants.”

The former Spice Girls will judge new talent alongside Simon, Louis and Cheryl.
Mel B has been announced as the new judge who will be joining The X Factor panel for the upcoming 11th series of the talent show. The former Spice Girl, 39, appeared on the show in 2012 as a guest judge and has also been featured on the American and Australian versions of ITV's hit singing contest.

She said she was "so excited" to have been appointed as a judge, in a deal that is reportedly worth £1 million, according to BBC News.
"I've always thought honesty is the best policy when being a judge and that's what I'm going to bring more of this year," Mel said. No one is quite sure how the #nomakeupselfie trend started, although it has incredibly raised £8 million (over $13m) so far. Not bad for free advertising that Cancer Research UK didn’t even initiate themselves! The power of social media, eh?

Khloe Kardashian and Cheryl Cole have recently shared who their girl crushes are, which other celeb women have admitted to crushing on other girls?
Come on ladies, admit it, we’ve all had a bit of a girl crush at some point. There’s nothing sexual in it, it’s more that we want to devour the subject of the crush whole and somehow morph into them and take over their lives. OK, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration, it’s more of an admiration/jealousy thing and with so many gorgeous celebrity women out there it’s hard not to develop a little crush every now and then.
Jennifer Aniston is the object of Cheryl Cole's desire
Even celebrities develop girl crushes on each other (that must be a little awkward if you then bump into said crush at an awards show or charity event...cringe). Recently Cheryl Cole tweeted the hashtag #WCW (Woman Crush Wednesday) along with an photograph of Jennifer Aniston and the word ‘oh Jennifer’.
As Kimberley Walsh becomes the second member of Girls Aloud to jump on the baby train, we dig up some facts on the former Girls Aloud singer.
Earlier this month former Girls Aloud member Nadine Coyle gave birth to her first baby daughter. Nadine announced to her Twitter followers on February 10th: ‘I am overjoyed to let you know that our little girl is here. She is amazing! I love being a mammy & will fill you all in soon’ and has since not updated her profile, clearly she is taking time off from social media to enjoy spending time with the new addition to her family.
Kimberley has announced she is pregnant with her first child
Fellow Girls Aloud alumni, Kimberley Walsh, took to the social media site this afternoon to let fans know that she will also become ‘a mammy’ (Nadine’s words - not Kimberley’s!) before the year is out. Kimberley tweeted this afternoon: ‘Justin and I are so happy to let you all know we are having a baby!! Couldn’t wait to share our lovely news with you all’. Her best friend Cheryl was also overjoyed by the news, taking to Instagram to congratulate her former band mate.

One Direction's Louis Tomlinson was there with girlfriend Eleanor Calder, as was Marvin Hume's wife and The Saturdays member Rochelle Humes. Former X Factor judge Cheryl Cole, who was on the judging panel in 2008 when the boys were first discovered, was also there, Instagramming a picture of the eventing with the caption: "Soooo proud of these boys ! Pop star Cheryl Cole has won a considerable pay-out from the producers of The X-Factor USA, who sacked her after filming just one episode in 2011.At the time, Simon Cowell refused to confirm the reasons behind Cole's departure, though speculation suggested she was removed over fears the American audience would not understand her Newcastle accent.

The Geordie singer won an undisclosed fee, said to be in the millions, for her dismissal from the talent show
One-time The X Factor judge Cheryl Cole has been handed a hefty sum by producers of the show as compensation for her speedy dismissal from the series early in its first season. The Girls Aloud singer was fired from the show after producers began to worry that American audiences wouldn't be able to understand her thick Newcastle accent and her contract was quickly terminated, without warning.
The X Factor has since hired another ineligible star to step into Cheryl's place, Paulina Rubio
As reported by the BBC, Cole appeared in only one episode of the show before being replaced by Nicole Scherzinger, who was initially signed on to serve as the show's host. Earlier this year, Cole sued the producers of the American Idol spin-off, Blue Orbit, for $2.3 million, citing loss of earnings resulting from her sudden dismissal from the series so early on. Cheryl had signed a two season contract before the show began, promising her a salary of $1.8 million for Season 1 and $2 million for Season 2. In her lawsuit, Cheryl also ask to be reimbursed for any expenses she may have had during her stay in Los Angeles, including her wardrobe and stylist for the show and living expenses, including food and accommodation, as well as interest, legal fees and "further relief as the court may deem just and appropriate."

The boys topped the poll of richest Britons under 30, with a massive worth of £59.33 million between them.
One Direction really do have everything after all. In a recently compiled list by Heat Magazine, the boy were revealed as the highest earning entertainment stars under-30's in the UK, with a combined worth of almost £60 million. Individually, the boys would be placed just outside the top ten, however when their wealth is combined they come out on top by a narrow margin.
Young, successful and very rich
Last years top spot holder, Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe, was ousted by the combined earning power of the mega-successful boy band, who have an estimated worth of over £12 million each. The boys were included to the list as a joint entity because most of their earnings have been made as a group, rather than through independent ventures. Narrowly missing out on reclaiming his top spot for a third time, Radcliffe came in second this year with £56.19 million. Something tells us that the Kill Your Darlings actor isn't losing too much sleep over being ousted from the top spot.
