Singer Cheryl has been accused of refusing to attend counselling sessions with husband Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini as he tried to save their marriage. The couple began divorce proceedings in December, just 18 months after tying the knot in a secret ceremony.
Cheryl is alleged to have refused to attend marriage counselling with her former husband.
A source told The Sun that Cheryl refused to attend counselling and instead offered her husband a substantial financial settlement to speed up their divorce, which he refused. “JB wanted to pull out all the stops to make the marriage work,” the source said.
“Cheryl had clearly given up on him but he tried to persuade her to go to counselling sessions with him. When she offered money to smooth things over, he refused. JB was never interested in Cheryl’s money. He just fancied her like crazy.”
Last month Cheryl officially dropped her estranged husband’s surname, to become known by just her first name again. At the time a source told The Mirror: “Cheryl wants to wipe the slate clean and start afresh with a new name, now the divorce is going through.”
“From hereon in, she will just be known as Cheryl. Her last album in 2014 was released under the name ‘Cheryl’, too, but everyone still called her by her new married name. This time around, everyone is under strict instructions that she is just Cheryl, nothing else.”
