'Community' Creator Dan Harmon Lists Some Shows To Fill The Void

Dan Harmon Chevy Chase

Dan Harmon took to Tumblr to address some distressed Tweets and give a bit of an insight into the cancellation of ‘Community’, which has been received by its fans like the news of a dead kitten. Harmon was also quick to point out some shows that could help fill the void in the post: "Sit back and treat yourself to some New Girl and Parks and Mindy and Brooklyn 99 and Eagleheart and Portlandia and have you seen Matt Berry's Toast of London? It's awesome," he said.

But the post is probably most notable for Harmon’s comments on the future of the show. He has been criticised for blocking ‘Community’ moving onto another network to work alongside with Sony, the primary broadcasters of the show. But he insist he doesn’t have the kind of power to sway that decision.

Series Creator Dan Harmon To Step Back Into "Community" College

Dan Harmon Chevy Chase Gillian Jacobs

Finally, after an outcry from Community fans, series creator Dan Harmon is returning to the show once again. Harmon exited, or rather, was fired from Community after season two, over some kind of disagreement. The exact events that led to his departure remain a mystery, but the whole story included an affected voicemail from Community actor Chevy Chase. Chase also left the show recently, in November 2012.

While the deal hasn’t been finalized, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Harmon would be returning on a two-year contract, along with writer and executive producer Chris McKenna, who exited the series in May 2012 after signing a two-year overall deal with Universal Television. Harmon replaces David Guarascio and Moses Port as the showrunner for the comedy, which has had a turbulent run, to say the least. Community got cancelled by NBC after just two seasons, but was then brought back after fans wrote angry emails and signed petitions, as netizens are so good at doing. The story was that the internal conflicts led to Harmon’s firing, but both critics and viewers have noticed that the series has lost something of its trademark sense of humor after the switch.

The news of Harmon's return comes after word leaked over Memorial Day weekend that the writer/executive producer was asked to return to Community during a taping of his Harmontown podcast. The deal hasn’t been formalized yet, but both Harmon and McKenna are expected to close in the next few days. One of the show’s stars, Gillian Jacobs, congratulated him over Twitter: "Welcome back, @danharmon! E Pluribus Anus!" Community reference, of course.

The Fourth (And Last?) Season Of Community Set To Hit The Airwaves!

Joel McHale Dan Harmon Chevy Chase

Cult comedy series Community returns to NBC this week and it's likely the eccentric students and staff of Greendale Community College will be enjoying their final season on screen. Network bosses are refusing to rule out a fifth series just yet, though industry insiders suggest season four will be the final bow.

A new trailer for season four hit the web this week and it certainly appears as though the cast are pulling out all the stops to go out with a bang! In the clip - which spoofs The Hunger Games - a foreboding voiceover announces "Experience the thrills, unravel the mystery, feel the chills, witness the redemption, share the hope, share the nostalgia, taste the tears, travel through time, forget the past, Community returns! Thursday's on NBC. Community! Thursday's 8pm, starting February 7th!" The promo also promises plenty of celebrity cameos, including Giancarlo Esposito returning as Pierce's half-brother, and a revisiting of much of last season's side-plots and incidents.

Community Season 5? "I'd Love To See It Continue" Says NBC Boss

Chevy Chase

The creator’s been fired and one of its major stars has leftCommunityseason 5 could still be very much a goer according to NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt.

There’s been a fair bit of news garnered from a presentation given by Greenblatt to critics yesterday (January 6, 2013) at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour, and the latest is that cult favorite but weak ratings draw of a comedy could continue to a fifth run. "I'm always hopeful for a show to continue” Greenblatt told reporters, including The Hollywood Reporter. “We co-own it and I'd love nothing more than to see it continue."

Creator and showrunner Dan Harmon was fired last year with co-star Chevy Chase also upping sticks and leaving. The show has also suffered from consistently being moved around the schedule, having been switched from a planned return last October on Friday nights, to one starting on February 7. Talking up the future though, Greenblatt said: "I don't know that I'm the Community expert, but I think you're going to see relatively the same show that you have seen before. There is a little bit more heart built in to it, but we didn't fundamentally change it." He was also upbeat about the departure of Chase, commenting: "Actors come and go on a lot of shows and this is a big ensemble; I don't think that's in any way going to be a big negative about the future of the show. He's in everything but two episodes.”

Top Twenty Classic Holiday Season Christmas Films

Chevy Chase Will Ferrell Zooey Deschanel Bill Murray Tim Allen Michael Caine The Muppets Macaulay Culkin Joe Pesci Eddie Murphy Dan Aykroyd Billy Bob Thornton Bruce Willis Alan Rickman Robert Downey Jr Val Kilmer Cameron Diaz Kate Winslet Jude Law Jack Black Keira Knightley Hugh Grant Colin Firth Johnny Depp

Little has caused more contention in the contactmusic office than our recent discussion about the Christmas films list! Obviously, everyone has their own favourite, and to them that will always be the top of the list. One thing that became all too clear to us was that - with the exception of Elf & Bad Santa - there really hasn't been too many full blown Christmas films so we'd like to make a plea to Bill Murray and the other Hollywood greats - PLEASE make a new (top quality) Christmas film to join these festive favourites!

I can't say we particularly advocate parents encouraging their offspring to watch films above their age certificate, but it appears we all grew up in houses that didn't really mind what we watched - and let's face it, some of the best Christmas films might have a few boobs or rowdy drunken behaviour... As children of the 80's and 90's, we're fully aware that there's original to some of these remakes, but as is always the way, these are the films we grew up with and as such, they are our favourites.

Enough explanation, in no particular order here are the films we recommend you watch over the holidays!

Over And Out: Chevy Chase Leaves Community

Chevy Chase

Chevy Chase has waved goodbye to his role on the hit US sitcom Community, with Sony Pictures Television releasing a statement last week (Nov 22) saying that Chase had left the NBC show by mutual agreement with its producers.

The veteran funny-man played the role of Pierce Hawthorne, a bored millionaire who enrols in the community college where the show is set, since the sitcom first aired back in 2009. With the fourth season of the show scheduled to begin in the US in February (13), a number of episodes have already been filmed for the upcoming series, with Chase featuring in each of them. Luckily for the show's producers, their team of writers should hopefully come up with something to ease Chase out of the show.

Chase's time on Community has not been the easiest of rides, with the former Saturday Night Live comic being engaged in a very public feud with the show's creator and former executive producer Dan Harmon. Allegedly Chase was dissatisfied with the way that Harmon was running the show. The feud was thrust into the public's view last year when clips of Harmon's voicemail were posted online in which Chase went for the jugular and accused Harmon of not understanding "what it is I do that's funny" and describing the show as a "mediocre sitcom".

Amicable Decision - Chevy Chase Walks Away From Community

Chevy Chase

Chevy Chase has made a peaceful decision to leave Community. Despite having had a turbulent relationship with the show’s producers in the past, the decision to leave was amicable, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Chase apparently wasn’t happy with the direction that his character, the racist Pierce Hawthorne, was taking and so decided to step down from the series. The majority of season’s four’s episodes have already been written though and its currently unclear whether or not his exit from the show will have to be quickly written into the scripts.

Last year, Chevy Chase had a rather public spat with the show’s creator, Dan Harmon, when he left Harmon an expletive-laden voicemail message. Harmon was fired from the show but then Chase found himself in hot water last month when he used the n-word whilst he was trying to make a point about his character’s direction.

Chevy Chase Mutually Agrees To Leave Community

Chevy Chase

Legendary comedian Chevy Chase will be leaving American sitcom Community, 'effective immediately' according to The Hollywood Reporter, which has confirmed reports.

Citing neither resignation nor a sacking, apparently Chase's exile from the show is a 'mutual decision'.  Most of season four has already been shot, with only a few more episodes to be produced, but it's unclear how his character Pierce Hawthorn's  exit will be written into the show, or if it even will be. Chase has caused controversy on set, so for many the news of his departure wont be a surprise for everyone. Apparently the comedian left an abusive voicemail message on writer Dan Harmon's phone, and accidentally let the 'n' word slip during filming earlier this year.

Community has already run into a fair few problems this year, having been postponed indefinitely back in September, and then rescheduled for January, plus it being very unclear for a long time as to whether another season would even be commissioned. Cast and crew alike waiting with baited breath, although given the disdain the 69 year old actor has expressed for the show, he was perhaps disappointed by the show's success and renewal. Community will be back on February 7th 2013.

Chevy Chase Rant: Did It Rival Christian Bale's On Set Explosion?

Chevy Chase Donald Glover Christian Bale Dan Harmon

Chevy Chase's rant on the set of NBC comedy 'Community' briefly halted production on the show on Friday (October 19, 2012), according to TVLine.com. Multiple sources confirm that Chase dropped the N-word in the presence of African-American co-stars Yvette Nicole Brown and Donald Glover.

An insider reveals how Chevy was struggling with his character's dialogue and - in a moment of sheer frustration - uttered the word. The slur was not thought to be directed at Brown or Glover, though it capped an unhappy filming schedule for the veteran comedian who is thought to be angry at the increasingly dark direction of his character Pierce Hawthorne. According to TMZ.com, Chase yelled out something along the lines of, "What's next? Am I gonna say the word ni**er?"A source told the Hollywood Reporter that Chase apologized immediately to the cast and crew of Community. The outburst comes just months after Chase blasted the show's creator Dan Harmon in a scathing voicemail message, calling him a "goddamn bad writer," before yelling, "Your writing is getting worse and worse."

So on reflection, Chase's outbursts ranks around 7/10 on the on-set-outburst-o-meter. Christian Bale's famous Terminator rant will forever remain the king. "Do you want me to go f*cking trash your lights? Do you want me to f*cking trash them? Then why are you trashing my scene? You do it one more f*cking time and I ain't walking on this set if you're still hired. I'm f*cking serious."

Daughter of former president John F. Kennedy, Caroline Kennedy and comedy actor Chevy Chase are seen arriving at Mary Richardson Kennedy's funeral service. The hearse arrives alongside Mary's estranged husband Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and their children Conor Richardson, Kyra LeMoyne, William Finbar and Aiden Caohman Vieques, aged 11 to 19.

Mary's family shunned the funeral service and burial organised by her husband and held their own memorial after their court case regarding custody of the body was lost and Mary was buried in the Kennedy family plot

Doogal Review

Bad
I'm a little ashamed to say this, but here goes: I didn't know what Doogal was supposed to be. From the looks of him (see picture, below), I thought he might be some kind of hairy bowel movement. His name is Doogal. His best friend is a snail. It's not unreasonable. It's juvenile, yes, but that's what Hollywood animated fare has become, by and large, so you can hardly blame me.

Turns out Doogal (Daniel Tay) is actually a dog. His best friend is Florence (Kylie Minogue), as well as a cow (Whoopi Goldberg), a train (Chevy Chase), and a flatulent moose (Kevin Smith). Their adventure, and you'll need to hang in there for this, involves magic diamonds that can freeze the sun. There's of course a bad guy with a plan to do just that: He's a kind of alien with a spring for the lower half of his body (voiced by an audibly bored Jon Stewart). Their adventure to stop her takes them across the countryside and, er, into, like, a magic land, or, something, I think.

Orange County Review

Good

Somewhere inside the surprisingly fresh, sharply jocular, angst-of-youth comedy "Orange County" there's a trite, typical teen movie struggling to get out. But director Jake Kasden just keeps out-witting the monster, pulling the carpet out from under its inherent clichés and giving his characters the chance to breathe and break free of their stock moldings.

A screwball affair about a bookwormy high school beach bum from the SoCal 'burbs who thinks his life is over when he doesn't get into Stanford, this flick rises above the spiritless, increasingly insipid, cookie-cutter teen genre simply because Kasden ("Zero Effect") and screenwriter Mike White ("Chuck and Buck") cared enough to try a little harder.

Played with pitch-perfect Everykid exasperation by sublimely expressive string bean Colin Hanks (son of Tom), Shaun Brumder had his heart set on pursuing his literary aspirations under the tutelage of his favorite writer, a professor at the venerated campus. So when he finds out his rejection was the fault of an inept guidance counselor (Lily Tomlin -- in the first of several inspired cameo performances) who sent the wrong transcript, Shaun goes on a dogged mission to get the decision reconsidered.
