The presenters were informed of Evans' departure while they were shooting 'The Grand Tour' in Italy this week.
Former ‘Top Gear’ presenters Jeremy Clarkson and James May are said to be rather pleased that the beleaguered Chris Evans announced his departure from the re-vamped BBC show earlier this week, with the latter saying he was “very chuffed” at Evans’ failure.
May and Clarkson, along with co-presenter Richard Hammond, have been filming an episode of their upcoming Amazon Prime show ‘The Grand Tour’ in the northern Italian city this week. On Monday, Evans resigned as presenter of the new ‘Top Gear’ after it flopped in the ratings, and the two ex-presenters are reportedly having a laugh about it when told.
James May is apparently "very chuffed" at the disastrous new series of 'Top Gear'
Asked by one of the show’s cameramen whether he was “chuffed Evans quit” after just one series, James May is said to have responded that he was “very chuffed” at what had happened.
Furthermore, according to the MailOnline, although Jeremy Clarkson didn’t explicitly offer a comment, the cameraman is quoted as saying that the presenter is as “pleased as punch”.

“He’s kept his mouth shut about Evans the whole time, and now Evans has hung himself by his own rope without Jeremy getting involved,” the cameraman told the newspaper, referring to Clarkson's dismissal from the show in March 2015 after the infamous 'fracas' with one of the show's producers, Oisin Tymon.
After last Sunday’s sixth and final episode dipped below two million viewers for the first time in a troubled series, Evans announced via Twitter that he was leaving the show, leaving Matt LeBlanc as the favourite to host ‘Top Gear’ by himself after the BBC announced that he wouldn’t be replaced.
The 50 year old, who also suffered the loss of his other TV presenting job ‘TFI Friday’ this week after it was axed by Channel 4, wrote: “Stepping down from Top Gear. Gave it my best shot but sometimes that’s not enough.”
