Snowpiercer isn’t new. Joon-ho Bong’s adapation of the popular French comic book Le Transperceneige by Jacques Lob. Walking around Paris last October, posters for the movie where everywhere, and without the laboured ‘delayed train’ play on words, it’s finally coming to the U.S on June 27. What’s more, there’s a ridiculously good red band trailer for it, too.
Tilda Swinton, Chris Evans, Octavia Spencer in 'Snowpiercer'
In it, Tilda Swinton’s character – the evil, maniacal tyrant, Mason – dominates. Her words provide the backdrop for the struggle faced by those on board and their battle for freedom. “Know your place. Keep your place,” advises Mason, before suggesting that exactly killing exactly 74% of the rebellious population in front of her would be “fun”.
“I met Tilda Swinton at the Cannes Film Festival in 2011. I was a Jury Member for the Camera D'Or and Tilda was there with We Need To Talk About Kevin. I was a big fan of hers. When I was in the Cinema Club at university I watched her Derek Jarman movies, also Orlando, which was quite successful in Korean art house theatres. I was fascinated by her performance in that movie. And Michael Clayton, yeah I was a big fan,” explained Bong on the casting of Swinton to Twitch.

The film sees Chris Evans take the lead as Curtis. He was one of the ‘lucky’ ones allowed entry to the train when a global warming experiment went wrong bringing another ice age upon the earth. But having fallen on the wrong side of an evolving class system, he must fight for the rights of him and his people.
So far, the film has gone down well with the critics; it currently holds an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Scott Foundas reviewed it for Variety, calling it “An enormously ambitious, visually stunning and richly satisfying futuristic epic from the gifted Korean genre director Bong Joon-ho.”
