Chris Martin has claimed that being part of Coldplay is responsible for the success that he has had in his personal life. Chris Martin states that he 'wouldn't have a girlfriend' if it wasn't for the platinum-selling band.

Talking to USA Today, the Fix You singer argued that being the frontman of Coldplay gave him the opportunity to meet Gwyneth Paltrow, who he later married in December 2003. Martin said: "I wouldn't even have a girlfriend if I wasn't in this band. I'm so grateful for my job; it's given me everything I have." This is an unusual admission for the 34-year-old musician who often likes to hide away from the limelight. Martin further elaborates: "Maybe it's an English thing, but I prefer trying to keep quiet and out of the way. I'm happy for my wife to be the famous one. She's doing awesomely, and I'm very proud." Instead, Martin argues that his relationship with his bandmates is in fact, similar to a very close marriage: "It's an important part of our history that we spent our first year knowing each other just as friends, not playing music together. We have this kind of four-way marriage, and it's gotten closer over the years - even though our lives are much different now than they were 10 years ago."

Coldplay will release their fifth studio album 'Mylo Xyloto' next Monday (24th Oct 2011).
