It's hard to believe but the summer blockbuster season is nearly upon us! So now's the perfect time to start planning your upcoming cinema trips. This summer looks to be the most action packed we've ever had with reboots and sequels leading the box office charge. So what blockbusters are you most looking forward to in the upcoming months?

The Amazing Spider-Man 2Get ready for 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'

The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Andrew Garfield is back in the sequel to 2012’s the 'Amazing Spider-Man'. With amped up CGI effects, this second installment looks like it could surpass its predecessor no problem. Emma Stone also returns and this time the villains are Rhino played by Paul Giamatti and Jamie Foxx as Electro. Also Dane Dehaan has come on board to play future Parker foe Harry Osborne. Spiderman's long been one of our happiest superheroes and in this new adventure he asks 'you know what it is I love about being Spider-Man?' 'Everything', is the answer, but we'll have to wait until May 2nd to see if we agree.

Godzilla

Helping to kick off the summer season 'Godzilla' will be resurrected on May 16th, to stomp all over the box office. This big budget remake has promised to take the original Japenese story and present a darker, more terrifying Godzilla story than we’ve seen on screen before, ie forget the 1998 movie. With an all star cast including ‘Breaking Bad’s’ Bryan Cranston and Aaron Taylor-Johnson plus a hot young director in Gareth Edwards, the movie looks set to resurrect the tricky 'Godzilla' franchise. Plus we’ve been promised the tallest 'Godzilla' we’ve ever seen before. Prepare for a monsterous start to the summer.

X-Men Days of Future Past

The seventh 'X-Men' movie sees Bryan Singer reclaim his director’s chair for the first time since 2003’s 'X2'. The confusing title let’s you know that this one might be a bit of a mind boggle. Indeed the new and old the old X-Men will both be on hand here as he characters from the original X-Men film trilogy join forces with their younger selves in a battle that must change the past in order to save their future. Huh? There’s a new cast of X-Men coming our way but we're also welcoming back Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence. This one is scheduled to hit theatres on May 23rd.

Maleficent

Angelina Jolie stars as the Sleeping Beauty villian gets her own origin story. From the posters and trailers people are expecting big things from this as Angelina really does look wickedly enchanting. There's also a pretty stellar supporting cast with Miranda Richardson, Juno Temple and Peter Capaldi all appearing as well as Elle Fanning playing the young Aurora. Special effects artist Robert Stromberg will make his directorial debut with this one, which might just make some massive box office bucks, if it can appeal to an audience of all ages when it is released on May 30th.

How to Train Your Dragon 2

Four years on and 'How to Train Your Dragon' is back with a sequel featuring the same terrific voice cast as the first plus a few welcome new additions. Gerard Butler will be heard again as will Jonah Hill and joining them is Kit Harrington and Oscar winner Cate Blanchett. Taking place five years after the first, Hiccup and his friends are now in their late teens and ready for another adventure. A third film is already in the works so it seems Dreamworks is really banking on this as their next new franchise. Lets hope it lives up to expectations when it is released on June 13th.

22 Jump Street

Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are back again this time going undercover to stop a fraternity crime ring, but things get complicated when their new found college friends cause them to question their unique friendship. Phil Lord and Chris Miller are coming hot off the back of their massive ‘Lego Movie’ sucess and Michael Bacall is back writing once again. This one wil be hoping to hold their own in what's set to be an action packed summer. They might be bringing the laughs but they'll also be plenty of action too and if the success of the first movie is anything to go by they shouldn't have too much to worry about in the some season. '22 Jump Street' hits theaters on June 13th.

Transformers: Age of Extinction

It’s been four years since the last ‘Transformers’ movie and now Shia LaBeouf is gone, but don't worry Mark Wahlberg’s been drafted in to replace him and Michael Bay has stayed on to direct. The fourth movie promises to be the most action packed yet, which means expect plenty of explosions. This new installement also sees the CGI animation beefed up. Another welcome cast addition is Dr Fraiser Crane, we mean Kelsey Grammar, as the lead villain. 'Transformers: Age of Extinction' is set to open in theaters on June 27.
