Chris Pratt played host last night (September 27th) for the premiere episode of ‘Saturday Night Live’s’ 40th season. Pratt was joined by singer of the moment Ariana Grande, who provided the music for the evening, performing her hits ‘Break Free’ and ‘Love Me Harder.’

The Guardians of the Galaxy star opened with a monologue which saw him produce a guitar and tell the audience “I know I’m not half the singer that Ariana Grande is, but I am technically three times her body weight. So the math works out.” Addressing wife Anna Faris, Pratt also joked about the time the two “had sex and a baby popped out.”

In perhaps the stand out moment of the evening, Pratt was seen dressed as He-Man with Taran Killam as Lion-O in a sketch involving toys that came to life by the power of a lonely child's wish. Of course it was great chance for Pratt to show off those abs that have been filling theatre screens all summer however we also wont forget Ariana's cameo as She-Ra in a hurry.

There were also plenty of jokes about Pratt’s star making role in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Referencing his new figure, at one point he sang of how he’d been on the” hey fat ass get into shape so you can be in my movie diet.” Plus a sketch which joked Marvel could now bring out a movie about anything based on Guardian’s success which showed us how Pratt looked dressed as Princess Leia (spoiler, he still looked good.)

While Pratt did earn praise for his hosting, the episode as a whole garnered a largely mixed reaction, with some of the sketches falling a little flat. Entertainment Tonight summed up the episode writing, ‘Saturday Night Live kicked off its 40th season tonight with a great host, a leaner and more focused cast, a committed musical guest and – unfortunately - a very uneven handful of sketches.’

‘SN’L returns next week with comedienne Sarah Silverman hosting along with musical guests Maroon 5.
