'The LEGO Movie' was the viewer's choice this weekend as the animated-comedy film debuts at No.1 at the North American box office, earning a huge $61.9 million in ticket prices, and eclipsing George Clooney's newly released World War II drama 'The Monuments Men'.

'The LEGO Movie' was a huge hit at the box office on opening weekend

The movie stars Chris Pratt as Emmet, an average Lego guy with a zest for life who is mistaken for the amazing Master Builder by the bearded sage Vitruvius (Morgan Freeman) and is given a mission to save the Lego world from being destroyed by Lord Business, the evil business man voiced by Will Ferrell.

Emmet's bravery paired with a nervous desire to take on the evil of the Lego world is a hilarious mixture that brings the child out in all viewers.

Elizabeth Banks, Liam Neeson, Charlie Day, Channing Tatum and many more are also part of the ensemble cast.

Coming in second was George Clooney's latest big screen project 'The Monumnets Men.' The drama-comedy, which boasts an all-star cast of Matt Damon, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Kate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin, Hugh Bonnerville and Bob Balan, garnered $22.7 million this weekend.
