The movie follows Emmet (Chris Pratt), an ordinary minifigure going about his cheery business in Lego Land when he is mistaken for the amazing Master Builder by the bearded sage Vitruvius (Morgan Freeman) and is enlisted on a mission to save the Lego world from being destroyed by Lord Business, the evil tyrant voiced by Will Ferrell. With plenty of in-jokes for Lego lovers, a genuinely inspired storyline with lots of twists and turns, and a stellar cast, The Lego Movie has received a massive thumbs-up from even the snootiest of critics.

Meanwhile, George Clooney's new WWII drama The Monuments Men is looking set to come in at second this week, with Kevin Hart and Ice Cube's date-night comedy Ride Along, Zac Efron's comedy bromance That Awkward Moment and teen supernatural romance Vampire Academy rounding out the top five.

If these rankings remain the same when the official weekend estimates are studied tomorrow, it will mean that Disney's Oscar-nominated music, Frozen, has finally dropped out of the top five after an awe-inspiring 11 weeks in the box office's upper echelons.

The Lego Movie is out now in the USA and will be released on the 14th February in the UK.
