Christopher Nolan's 'Interstellar' Comic Will Explain Things, A Little

Christopher Nolan

Christopher Nolan has written a new comic book that centers on Dr Mann - the character played by Matt Damon in the British filmmaker's latest movie Interstellar. Absolute Zero focuses on the personal journey taken by the doctor before he is introduced in the film.

The seven-page comic will be featured in the upcoming issue of Wired - which Nolan is guest-editing - though can also be read in full on Wired.com. Generally, Nolan has avoided releasing deleted scenes from his movie so Absolute Zero acts as a rare companion to fill in the gaps in the complex sci-fi epic. In a further helping hand for fans of the movie, Nolan's science advisor on Interstellar, Kip Thorne, has authored a book titled The Science of Interstellar. That book does not address plot themes and is more science based. The Christopher Nolan edited issue of Wired hits newsstands on November 25, 2014.

Christopher Nolan’s latest movie Interstellar has been earning big bucks at the box office and generating considerable Oscar buzz since it’s release last weekend. But its success doesn't mean the director would be willing to have a go at taking on an established 'space franchise'. Of course, by that we mean the ultimate space saga, Star Wars.

Interstellar Is A New Genre For Nolan

Christopher Nolan Anne Hathaway Matthew Mcconaughey Michael Caine Jessica Chastain Robin Williams Al Pacino

Over the past 15 years, Christopher Nolan has proven himself as a master of intelligent filmmaking, generally sticking to the psychological thriller genre while mixing in action and brain-bending flourishes. And now with Interstellar he has left the confines of Earth's gravity to head into science-fiction for the first time.

Intriguingly, Nolan has still maintained his commitment to in-camera effects even in this genre, refusing to indulge in flashy digital trickery just because he can. Like his last few films, he has also shot portions of the film in Imax, massive screen imagery photographed on film, not digitally, which gives the entire movie an earthy texture that's intriguingly realistic. This also focusses even the most existential and scientific discussions squarely on the characters.

'Interstellar' Is Coming: But What Is A Black Hole, Exactly?

Matthew Mcconaughey Christopher Nolan

We're now just weeks away from the release of Christopher Nolan's sci-fi epic Interstellar -the most anticipated movie, certainly of 2014, perhaps of the last few years. Paramount has employed a clever marketing campaign for this, in that, they haven't really done any marketing. Plot details have been kept under wraps, trailers have offered little insight into what will unfold and the studio have let word-of-mouth and natural buzz lead the way.

InterstellarMatthew Mcconaughey [L] plays a widowed enginner in Christopher Nolan's 'Interstellar'

One thing we do know is that Interstellar concerns black holes. They're the place in space where gravity pulls so much that even light can't get out. It can often happen when a star is dying, though because light can't get out - nobody can see black holes. They're invisible. As in the Muse song - the largest black holes are the "supermassive" kind. They're said to be the size of 1 million suns together and scientists have proven that every large galaxy contains a supermassive black hole.

In the first real Comic-Con surprise, Matthew McConaughey managed to spring up on stage and shock fans with his patented “Alright, alright alright,” before delivering some new information on Christopher Nolan’s new film, ‘Interstellar’.

'Interstellar' Trailer Revealed: Matthew McConaughey Is Charged With Saving Humanity

Matthew Mcconaughey’s hot streak will either rank up the degrees or grow cold like Wilfred’s Snowpiercer when Christopher Nolan’s ‘Interstellar’ hits town in November. The sci-fi drama sees the Dallas Buyers Club star step into the lead role once more in what looks like another space-based Oscar contender.

Interstellar

But we have to be careful with that kind of talk, don’t we? Nolan’s first film since The Dark Knight trilogy is showing immense prospect. In the trailer we see McConaughey as a skilled engineer and trained pilot; except the world doesn’t need any more engineers – it’s running out of food.

Johnny Depp's new science fiction thriller Transcendence isn't even out yet in most countries but box office prospects are looking shaky for its upcoming debut weekend. With its intriguing premise and dark moral message, the film was supposed to be simultaneously Depp's comeback after the critically trashed Lone Ranger and first foray into leading a sci-fi film but has unfortunately failed to ignite reviewers' imaginations so far.

Everything You Need To Know About Christopher Nolan's 'Interstellar'

Christopher Nolan Matthew Mcconaughey

The Dark Knight trilogy director Christopher Nolan is notorious for keeping details about his films closely guarded until they’re finally released, which is extremely frustrating for us impatient Nolan fans. Particularly when we know that he's got something special in the works.  To tide us over we’ve managed to scrape together whatever information we can about his intriguing new sci-fi project, Interstellar.

christopher nolan interstellar Christopher Nolan is frustratingly good at keeping details about his movies under wraps

At a recent ComicCon lunch which had been held in Nolan’s honor (a day in the life of a famous director, eh?), the director described the upcoming movie as “using interstellar travel to go to other places you couldn’t reach beyond space travel.” Interesting, we often wonder what it’s like outside of our galaxy, it will be interesting to see what Nolan comes up with. We’ve certainly not been disappointed by his offerings in the past, so we’re expecting great things from Interstellar. He’s definitely adept at creating spectacular and in-depth settings, Inception and The Dark Knight are testaments to that.

Dumb & Dumber, Interstellar, Transformers: Things We Learnt At CinemaCon

Mark Wahlberg Angelina Jolie Christopher Nolan

Every year the big Hollywood studios invade Las Vegas for the annual CinemaCon event, a showcase of what movie fans can expect over the next year and beyond. So far this year the event has been pretty spectacular, ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’, ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ and ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’, are just some of the films that we got to know a little more about at the event. So here’s our low down on what you need to know from CinemaCon so far.

Kicking off Cinema Con on Monday was Paramount who debuted footage of ‘Transformers:Age of Extinction’, ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ and ‘Hercules’. The ‘Hercules’ presentation featured Dwayne Johnson and showed the new trailer which has since been released online. Those eager to get a better idea of what to expect from the ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ reboot were given their first real look at the film when a teaser trailer was shown. While not too much was given away, the trailer looked more at the Turtles origins and the battles they would face. Shredder (William Fichtner) provided the voice over, which showed how the city had become overrun with violence as Megan Fox, playing April, looks on at the destruction. ‘Heroes are not born -- they're created’, was the main tagline to come out of the footage , which ended with the Turtles scaring April as they appeared in front of her in an alley causing her to faint. The teaser didn't really give a proper look at the turtles as they weren't seen in action, but word is they're pretty huge.

First Glimpse At 'Interstellar' Gives Very Little Away - Why Are We So Excited Then!?

Christopher Nolan Matthew Mcconaughey Anne Hathaway Michael Caine Jessica Chastain Casey Affleck

Earlier this week we were treated to the first teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan's sci-fi epic Interstellar. The trailer really did put the 'teaser' back in to teaser trailer, as it consisted only of archive footage of various historical events, with Matthew Mcconaughey's rich Texan drawl narrating something inspirational over the top of the images. It gave absolutely nothing away in regards to what we can expect to see in the film, but frankly we don't even care.

Not to jump to conclusions, but Nolan might have done it again

Nolan has been working in relative secrecy on the project along with his brother, Jonathan Nolan, with the basis of the film apparently being inspired by a story by physicist Kip S. Thorne. We already know this, as well as the fact that McConaughey will be starring in the film alongside Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Casey Affleck, Michael Caine and others, and after seeing the first glimpse of the film this is still all we know in regards to what the Nolan Bros. have in store for us. Their secrecy might make some angry, but frankly the secrecy is just making us more and more excited for the complex film.

The Dark Knight trilogy has been lauded as the greatest comic book adaption series ever committed to film and has re-written the way Hollywood sees superhero movies, but Christian Bale has decided that when it comes to wearing the famed black mask and cape; three times is enough. The Oscar-winning actor told Entertainment Weekly that although he cherishes the time he had making the movies, he thinks it better to leave things as they are and not tamper with Christopher Nolan's astounding vision.

Bale wont be returning as Batman/Bruce Wayne

"We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three [Batman films]. That's enough. Let's not get greedy," said the Batman/Bruce Wayne actor during the interview to promote his new film, Out of the Furnace, adding; "Chris [Nolan] always said he wanted to make it one film at a time and we ended up sitting there looking at each other, saying 'We're about to make the third.' We never really knew if we were going to get to be there, but if that was how it was going to be, this was where it should end as well."

Man Of Steel Review

Excellent

Superman gets the Dark Knight treatment, as Christopher Nolan offers a much grittier, more intensely personal look at the biggest superhero of them all. It's a flawed film that feels far too violent for its own good, but the pungent story holds us in its grip all the way through, cleverly weaving the character's back-story into a series of emotive flashbacks along with massively thrilling action sequences. And along the way there are resonant ethical dilemmas, family issues and pointed political drama.

Some 30 years ago, scientist Jor-El (Crowe) packed his infant son Kal-El into a pod and sent him to Earth to escape certain doom as the planet Krypton imploded after centuries of ecological abuse. This enrages the viciously tenacious General Zod (Shannon) who spends three decades searching for the child. Meanwhile, Kal-El (Cavill) was raised as Clark in Smallville, Kansas, by the Kents (Lane and Costner), who taught him to keep his powers in check. But when he activates a downed Kryptonian ship, he alerts Zod to his whereabouts. And just as nosey journalist Lois Lane (Adams) learns Clark's secret, Zod arrives to launch a full-on attack.

This is a film about internal conflicts, and everyone has to face up to their own desires and responsibilities. Even Zod, whose dedication to his people means that he is willing to wipe out humanity in order to recreate Krypton on Earth. So Kal-El is caught between protecting his adopted planet and being loyal to his birth species. Lois is struggling with keeping a big secret or reporting the news. All of this provides plenty of gristle for the actors to chew on, even if the dilemmas aren't actually that difficult. And even though they sometimes seem consumed by the elaborate sets and costumes.

Hans Zimmer (Unsurprisingly) Chosen To Score Christopher Nolan's 'Interstellar'

Hans Zimmer Christopher Nolan

Han Zimmer and Christopher Nolan seem to go together like Steven Spielberg and John Williams or Tim Burton and Danny Elfman nowadays, with the director and film score-writer hooking up yet again for Nolan's next movie, Interstellar. The German-born composer has even began writing the music for the project too, which is expected to reach cinemas in fall 2014.

Zimmer told Collider on Saturday (June 1) that following an exceptionally successful collaborative run over the Dark Knighttrilogy and Inception, he is eager to work with the British director once again on his sci-fi epic. As well as having Zimmer on board, Nolan is writing the script with his brother Jonathan, based on the work of theoretical physicist Kip Thorne. Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain will star.

The composer only revealed his own participation in the movie, neglecting to mention anything else about the upcoming project that is being helmed by the notoriously secretive Nolan. Zimmer's revelation doesn't exactly come as a surprise, however the news that he is already working on the score more than a year before the release of the film gives some indication of the ambition and scale of the project. He said, “I wrote something…and I’m writing that. So, yes, we have started.”

'Batman: Arkham Origins' Features Bane And The Joker

Christopher Nolan Batman

Batman: Arkham Origins captures a "rawer, scarier Batman" more akin to Christopher Nolan's movie franchise than previous games in the series. The new game - set for release on October 25 - is set five years before the events on 2009's Batman: Arkham Asylum, on a New York Christmas Eve where many of Gotham's inhabitants still consider the caped crusader to be a myth.

Senior producer Ben Mattes and creative director Eric Holmes were in Los Angeles last week to showcase scenes from the game, which includes new weapons, a new voice cast and enhanced detective abilities for Batman, according to the Los Angeles Times. Mattes said the primary inspiration behind the new game was the 'Legends of the Dark Knight' comic series, launched after Tim Burton's 1989 movie. The emphasis on Batman's earlier days means Origins is more likely to mirror Christopher Nolan's 'Dark Knight' trilogy. "That's the time in his career we loved, and we believe it dovetailed very appropriately with being a player in a video game - that feeling of raw empowerment that comes from knowing the people you're fighting in the world are scared of you," Mattes told Hero Complex. "They are genuinely worried about what happens when you get your hands on them. That creates a very strong feeling of power that we want to put in the hands of the players.

Has Christopher Nolan Been Chosen To Direct The Next Bond Movie?

Christopher Nolan Sam Mendes James Bond

According to a report published in the Daily Mail today (May 17), British director Christopher Nolan is being eyed up by MGM executives as the man they want to direct the next James Bond film. The Inception director is atop the list of potential directors being lined up to direct the follow-up to the massively successful Skyfall, with the next film being the 24th film in the long-running series.

Skyfall director Sam Mendes, who did an excellent job it must be noted, has already voiced his desire to remain on board and direct the follow-up to the film, however the Oscar-winning director has been forced to dropped out of the project because of his theatre commitments Charlie And The Chocolate Factory and King Lear (a joint effort with Simon Russell Beale) at the National Theatre on London's West End.

Have Warners Cancelled The 'Justice League' Film Project?

Henry Cavill Christopher Nolan

Everyone getting all excited about the forthcoming Justice League film just hold onto your hats – the movie might not even be getting made.

A recent report by Variety assesses the future of Warners studios and pinpoints that the Henry Cavill-starring Superman film Man Of Steel is the key target for them this year with regards commercial success. This much we already knew; what we didn’t know is the suggestion that the success of that film could impact plans further down the line – namely the production of the Justice League film. If the film tanks it’s unlikely that that film would then happen – disappointing news for all those who’ve reported on rumored directors, actors, plots and characters so vehemently. As Variety points out, Warners hasn’t been able to fully exploit its DC Comic titles that well – Christopher Nolan’s Batman films aside – with Green Lantern most notably struggling at the box office.

The studio has of course been prospering elsewhere, with the likes of the Harry Potter films, The Hobbit, and The Hangover franchise all doing well in recent years, as well as Batman. Yet in turbulent economic times, even the biggest movie companies know that the collapse of their fan base could always be just one bad film around the corner, and so the suggestion that The Justice League is being treated cautiously is a sensible, if not slightly disappointing, decision.

No Love For The Dark Knight Rises At This Year's Oscars

Christopher Nolan Ben Affleck Academy Of Motion Pictures And Sciences Tom Hardy Heath Ledger Anne Hathaway

Christopher Nolan's epic conclusion to the celebrated Dark Knight trilogy was released in the summer of 2012, with many critics agreeing that it was already a viable contender for Oscar season, but of the 24 categories on offer, The Dark Knight Rises didn't receive a single nod.

Everyone seems to be up in arms over Ben Affleck's omission from the Best Director category, or over Skyfall's similarly unanimous snub (although, rightly so, it has been given the nod for Best Cinematography as well as nominations for its soundtrack and editing), but it does come as quite a surprise to see so few remarks about the lack of Batman at The Oscars.

Ok, we all agree that the film maybe wasn't overall as good as its predecessor The Dark Knight, but it was still one hell of a show (and how was Tom Hardy supposed to compete with Heath Ledger's Joker). From the colossal set designs (Bane's sewer-based lair), the quite brilliant costumes on show (Catwoman and Bane's mask) and the film's deep underlying messages reflecting our own world, raising questions about class, wealth and power, has a more deserving and appropriate for our time film been made this year? You'd have to say no, not really.

Christopher Nolan's Latest Attempt To Impress The Academy: Interstellar

Christopher Nolan Steven Spielberg

Ok, so the headline's probably a little unfair. We're pretty sure Christopher Nolan has all but given up trying to squeeze any golden statuettes out of the Academy. We should probably accept that the Batman director isn't going to win Best Director and Best Picture anytime soon, though his movies will no doubt continue to thrill for many, many years.

Anyway, the progressive filmmaker's latest project is likely to be sci-fi drama Interstellar, written by his brother and long-time collaborator Jonathan Nolan. According to multiple sources who spoke with the Hollywood Reporter, Nolan has set his sights on the big-budget project which - surprise, surprise - involves time travel and alternate dimensions. The details are sketchy, though it's thought the movie will follow a group of explorers who travel through a wormhole. The script is actually based on the real-life scientific theories of Kip Throne, a theoretical physicist, gravitational physicist and astrophysicist.

Interstellar has already found a home at Paramount, though would be made in collaboration with Warner Brothers, where Nolan made his three Batman movies, as well as Insomnia and Inception. Steven Spielberg was originally attached to the project, though it's unclear whether he will remain involved in some capacity. On Wednesday, the Lincoln director's forthcoming project Robopocalypse was delayed indefinitely. On Thursday, Nolan's Dark Knight Rises was snubbed entirely in the Oscar nominations.

Total Snub: No Dark Knight Rises Oscar Nominations

Christopher Nolan

There was disappointment for The Dark Knight Rises as it missed out on a nomination for Best Picture – in fact, scratch that, it missed out on a nomination everywhere.

Largely thanks to the stellar performance of the late Heath Ledger, its predecessor had taken a grand total of eight nominations at the 2009 Academy Awards, and with another strong critical showing upon its release last year, there were no doubt hopes that the sequel would feature in the reckoning today (January 10, 2013). However, alongside another blockbuster franchise in James Bond, it managed to miss out on all the major categories in a massive snub to director Christopher Nolan, who must have previously thought he’d taken the one much-dated Batman character back towards something approaching artistic relevance.

At least the Bond franchise has something to look forward to on Oscar’s night; Skyfall might have missed out but there will be a tribute to the series reaching its 50th anniversary (although that may well stick in the craw); for Nolan it means a disappointing end to his trilogy directing the caped crusader. It’s hard to say what it was that’s halted The Dark Knight Rises momentum, an unfortunate reason may well be that the shootings at the Aurora Theater during a midnight screening of the film last summer quickly overshadowed the film itself, although commercially it remained strong thereafter. Either way, it’s a pity that Nolan will be bowing out from the franchise with a whimper.

Christoper Nolan's New Movie, Interstellar?

Christopher Nolan Steven Spielberg Daniel Day Lewis

With Christopher Nolan categorically insisting that he won't helm another entry into the already finished Batman trilogy, minds are wondering as to what his next project will be.

According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, his next venture could be a leap into time travel with Interstellar. Like Looper and Inception before it, the plot is thought to be an incredibly complex one, as is based on scientific theories developed by Kip Thorne, a theoretical physicist, gravitational physicist and astrophysicist at Caltech. The deal has been allegedly negotiated for months now, and like the plot, is also very complex. Back in November (2012), Nolan insisted that he has no intention of making another Batman movie. He said at the time (via NME): "For me, The Dark Knight Rises is specifically and definitely the end of the Batman story as I wanted to tell it, and the open-ended nature of the film is simply a very important thematic idea that we wanted to get into the movie, which is that Batman is a symbol."

Spielberg was mooted to be involved in the project, but this latest revelation questions his involvement in the film. He'll be turning his head towards the Oscar Nominations announcement, which, barring a huge surprise, will see Lincoln nominated for best picture, himself up for best director, and his lead, Daniel Day Lewis in the running for best male lead.

New Man Of Steel Movie Still Reveals Little About Superman's New Look

Christopher Nolan Henry Cavill

Man of Steel, the newest Superman franchise reboot, is looking pretty good from the latest movie still.

The shot shows Clark Kent, sporting the classic Superman suit and cape and staring into the distance in classic pensive superhero fashion. Unfortunately, as far as costume reveals go, this one isn’t the most exciting. We only get to see Henry Cavill’s back in this one, which is great as far as backs go, but doesn’t really give away much in terms of changes to the suit. Fans don’t get a good look in the trailers that have been released so far either, but they do, at least, give us a feel for the movie itself.

As origin stories go, this one will be pretty dark it seems, going for sleekness and style, which has been the trend these days, but with Christopher Nolan producing, is anyone really surprised. Nolan has set the bar high with The Dark Knight trilogy and there’s no question that comic book geeks and casual fans alike will be going into the theatres with high expectations. The flick will also be competing with Thor 2, which comes out later in 2013. Looks like it’s going to be a good year for superheros.

'Man Of Steel' Trailer Shows New Superman Movie To Be A Sentimental Affair

Henry Cavill Zack Snyder Christopher Nolan Amy Adams

It's easy to think of Superman as nothing more than 'super', a man with unfathomable strength who can fly and with the power to repeatedly save the world. But we often seem to neglect the fact that he's ultimately fallible, not only because of his allergy to kryptonite, but also because despite being from another planet, his wholesome Kansas upbringing has imbued within him a strong set of morals which make him painfully human.

It is these more complex attributes that Man of Steel seems to be exploring, as implied by the newest trailer released today. We see a young Clark Kent, struggling to cope with his powers, and being told by his father to keep them hidden. He rescues his classmates from almost certain death using his strength, but his father chastises him. "What was I supposed to do, just let them die?" Clark asks. "Maybe." His father replies.

This initial notion of sacrifice seems to be resurface later in the trailer as Superman asks whether he'll be accepted and is then seen handcuffed. "My father was convinced I wouldn't be accepted..." He says, "What do you think?"

Batman The Dark Knight Rises Lands Spot On AFI Best Film List

Christopher Nolan Ben Affleck Paul Thomas Anderson Ang Lee

In the run up to The Oscars, as awards season is in full swing, a mention by The American Film Institute in their top 10 films of the year represents a confidence boost for the respective directors and actors hoping to pick up that much coveted gold statue.

One of these films in the last instalment of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy: The Dark Knight Rises, which isn't totally void of Oscar buzz, but is very much considered to be an outsider. Being selected in the list doesn't guarantee anything, but it certainly revitalises the flame for films that were released earlier in the year.

Given the stellar list of movies, it's hard to see how Dark Knight... will prevail. Even if it's nominated, it'll more than likely face stiff competition from Life of Pi, Lincoln and Ben Affleck's Argo.

The Dark Knight Rises DVD Hits Stores: But Can The Movie Win An Oscar?

Michael Caine Christopher Nolan Christian Bale Gary Oldman Tom Hardy Anne Hathaway Morgan Freeman

The wait is over. The Dark Knight Rises is finally available on DVD, and it's already flying off the shelves. The Ultraviolet Digital Copy is currently No.1 on Amazon.com's bestseller list, while The Dark Knight Trilogy (Batman Begins/The Dark Knight/The Dark Knight Rises) sits at No.2.

Christopher Nolan's final Batman movie grossed over $1.08 billion worldwide, while receiving a slew of positive reviews. It's currently the seventh highest grossing film of all time and the second highest grossing film of 2012. The film boasted an all-star cast including Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Morgan Freeman and British star Michael Caine, who recently spoke to the Huffington Post about his Oscars chances. The actor - who plays Bruce Wayne's butler Alfred - already has two Best Supporting Actor gongs, though could he get a nomination in 2013? "You don't think about getting nominated. They either do it or you don't. There's nothing you could do. I'm looking for people I could pay off, but I can't find any. [Laughs] So you just wait," he joked. It's unlikely the movie itself will compete for Best Picture, though the likes of Caine could land a nomination. He added, "You just leave it in the lap of the members. I'm one of the members, so I'm voting for me. I'll tell you that."

Caine recently completed shooting the forthcoming thriller Now You See Me, about FBI agents who track down a team of illusionists who pull off bank heists during their performances. The film hits cinemas in the U.S. on June 7, 2012.

Batman Rumors Get Gravitas For Joseph Gordon Levitt

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Christopher Nolan

It looks as though those rumors about Joseph Gordon Levitt becoming the new Batman may have had some substance to them, after all! According to Hitfix.com, it’s no coincidence that the ending of Dark Knight Rises hints at the potential for continuity for Batman’s story and DC and Warner Bros may well have plans in the pipeline for the character.

Christopher Nolan may have finished with the franchise but it looks as though Gordon-Levitt may be closer than previously thought to inking a deal that will see him slipping into that Batman suit before long. The story’s based partly on fact and partly on speculation but it certainly seems likely that JGL could be the next bat-suited hero to hit the big screen. There’s a suggestion that Batman’s character might be introduced to the end of Man of Steel, the new Superman movie, as Warner Bros have “been studying the way Marvel handled their build-up to "The Avengers," and once they've made the decision they've apparently made, why not start laying the groundwork as soon as possible?”

Joseph Gordon Levitt is clearly the man of the moment, he’s wowed the critics recently with Looper and makes an appearance in the Oscar-tipped Lincoln, too, so Warner Bros would be daft not to snap him up and get him involved in their plans for one of their favourite superheroes.

Idris Elba To Replace Daniel Craig As James Bond?

Idris Elba Christopher Nolan Daniel Craig Sam Mendes

Daniel Craig’s already signed up for two more Bond films, though that hasn’t stopped Bond fanatics pondering who might eventually replace the gruff English gent when he eventually grows tired of being 007. A bit of digging around by The Huffington Post reveals that one such actor mooted for a possible Bond role has been Idris Elba, star of The Wire and Prometheus.

The news of Elba’s possible future involvement was slipped out by Skyfall star Naomie Harris, who said “I didn’t realize that there was this talk and then I did a film with Idris [Elba] and he said that he met Barbara Broccoli [James Bond producer],” Harris explained, “It does seem like a possibility in the future that there could very well be a black James Bond.” It’d certainly be a heck of a change in direction for the Bond character, but one that would work as Elba’s brasher personality would be a fresh change unexplored over previous films.

And who might replace Sam Mendes? There’ve been discussions apparently about the possibility of Christopher Nolan possibly getting involved in the future. Gregg Wilson, associate producer of Skyfall had this to say on the matter: “We would of course be interested to have a discussion with him. We would like to do the same type of movie. It would be a dream to be with Nolan. But we always have an open mind when it comes to directors.”

Cloud Atlas Is As Risky As Inception, Says Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks Christopher Nolan Lilly Wachowski Halle Berry Jim Broadbent Jim Sturgess Doona Bae Zhou Xun Hugh Grant Hugo Weaving Susan Sarandon

With his upcoming film, Cloud Atlas ready for release later this month, one of the film’s stars, Tom Hanks, has alluded to the deep plotline that runs through the book adaptation and said that the film is as “risky as Inception” was when it was release in 2010.

Hanks was plugging his new film during a chat with Canadian paper The Montreal Gazette, when he brought up the Christopher Nolan film, suggesting that it was the closest thing to compare to his latest movie outing. Cloud Atlas follows the intertwining lives of a massive cast that drifts between centuries both past and present, examining the impact of fate on good and bad behaviour.

In his discussion, he not only had praises to sing for Brit-director Nolan, but also his three “bold” directors for the upcoming project; Tom Tykwer and Lana and Andy Wachowski. And if three directors were a lot to take on board, then the number of characters the actors have to transform themselves into throughout the film will take some effort to get your heads round too, with Hanks alone taking on 6 different roles.

The Dark Knight Rises Review

Extraordinary
When the credits roll at the end of this overlong action epic, it feels like we've just turned the final page of an immersive novel. It takes about an hour to find its stride, but Nolan's final Batman movie is also thunderously complex and entertaining.

It's eight years later, and Commissioner Gordon (Oldman) has allowed the press to create a myth that Batman was a villain. Badly injured, Bruce Wayne (Bale) has become a recluse, tended to by his butler Alfred (Caine). Then a new baddie arrives: Bane (Hardy) is part of the League of Shadows, trained by Bruce's old nemesis Ra's al Ghul (Neeson) to purge the world of human decadence. So Bruce turns to Wayne company boss Lucius (Freeman) to get back in fighting shape, deciding to trust a slippery cat burglar (Hathaway) and a rookie cop (Gordon-Levitt).

Dark Knight Rises Trailer

Bruce Wayne returns to Gotham after eight years in The Dark Knight Rises, his alias Batman nursing a sore reputation after the last film, The Dark Knight, where he assumed responsibility for the attorney Harvey Dent's crimes in order to protect Dent's name after he loses his life during The Joker's assault on the city. This time he intends to defend Gotham City from a new villain: the virtually indestructible Bane who, as discovered by Commissioner Gordon, is plotting the obliteration of the entire city from the inside.

Inception Review

Essential
Nolan pulls us into another fiendishly entertaining scenario, engaging our brains while taking us on a thrilling ride. And while the mind-bending story might not be as cerebral as it seems, it completely envelops us.

Cobb (DiCaprio) invades people's dreams for a living, stealing ideas with the help of his sidekick Arthur (Gordon-Levitt). But a new client (Watanabe) wants him to try inception instead: implanting an idea in the mind of media heir Fischer (Murphy). So Cobb hires a new architect (Page) and two other skilled experts (Hardy and Rao) to create an elaborately layered dreamworld for the reverse heist. The problem is that Cobb's wife (Cotillard) is lurking in this alternate reality and could bring the whole plan crashing down around them.

Excellent
Have you ever noticed how one measly letter separates "laughter" from "slaughter?"

I almost missed this off-the-cuff joke -- it's spray-painted on the side of a semi as the Joker (Heath Ledger) descends on a police convoy hustling doomed district attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) beneath the streets of Gotham. But it beautifully captures the balancing act director Christopher Nolan attempts in The Dark Knight, an anticipated blockbuster that seems capable at any point of plunging headlong into hilarity or insanity, moral stability or absolute chaos.
