The Homeland cast and crew are heading to Germany, to shoot the entirety of season 5. The Emmy-award winning Showtime show will shoot on location in the country, which picks up two years on from the events of season 4, with Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) having quit the CIA, now working for a private security firm in Berlin.

Following her ill-fated stint as the CIA's Islamabad station chief, Carrie is feeling estranged from the agency and "struggling to reconcile her guilt and disillusionment with years of working on the front lines in the 'war on terror,'" according to an announcement from Showtime.

Homeland will begin shooting in early June at Studio Babelsberg in Berlin, with the new season set to premiere in the fall. It marks the first time an American TV series has filmed a full season entirely in Germany. 

According to showrunner Alex Gansa, the series will again have focus on the Middle East though could take in recent events in Ukraine. Gansa confirmed that a team spent time in Washington researching international relations before they began writing season 5.

Babelsberg was the facility used by Wes Anderson for his Oscar-winning movie The Grand Budapest Hotel. 

Homeland's first season pulled in an average of 1.25 million, with season's two and three landing 1.92 million and 1.95 million respectively. Season four dropped to 1.65 million.
