Clean Bandit are relatively new on the music scene but their fresh new sound is already making a lot of noise in the UK charts.

The four-piece band have landed their first ever No.1 single with the fastest selling track of the year so far, 'Rather Be' ft Jess Glynne, the Official Charts Company reports.

Clean Bandit, which are made up of brothers Jack and Luke Patterson, Grace Chatto and Neil Amin-Smith, formed after three of the four members met during their time at Cambridge University in 2009.

"I can't believe we're Number 1!"  Grace told OfficialCharts.com. "Thank you so much to everyone who bought Rather Be."

The quartet, has sold over 163,000 copies in the last seven days and what is usually known as the quiet month for UK record sales, January has also been kind to this week's other chart toppers.

Clean Bandit, whose musical style has been described as a fusion of electronic and classical music, made their album chart debut in April last year (2013) when their track 'Mozart's House' landed at No.17 on the singles chart.

"We came together at university when Jack got quite involved in the classical music that Neil and I were performing," Grace continued. "He started writing beats and basslines alongside snippets of classical recordings he'd made of our quartet."

Adding, "We really wanted to play live together, so we booked a club night. It was only about two weeks away from when we had the initial idea, so we spent those two weeks madly putting together about 10 songs. We then performed live and knew that we wanted to do it again and again."

They knocked hip-hop mogul Pharrell Williams off the top spot as 'Happy', which the the soundtrack to 'Despicable Me 2', falls into 2nd position.
