Clint Eastwood's joke about Caitlyn Jenner at Spike TV's Guys Choice Awards is to be cut from the June 18 broadcast. During filming of the show, the American Sniper director delivered a gag at the expense of Jenner while introducing Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Eastwood compared The Rock to other athletes-turned-actors, like "Jim Brown and Caitlyn somebody."

Later, David Schwarz, Spike TV senior vice president of communications, confirmed to E! that the reference will be cut from the final broadcast of the Guy's Choice Awards.

Caitlyn, formerly Bruce Jenner, has received a wave of positive support after appearing as a woman on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine this month. His athletic accomplishments were be honoured at the 2015 EPSY Awards in July, where she will receive the Arthur Ashe Courage Awards.

Upon learning of the honour, Jenner said in a statement: "In the past few months, the overwhelming outpouring of support from all over the world for my journey has been incredible...However, being honored with this award, which is named after one of my heroes, is truly special. For the first time this July, I will be able to stand as my true self in front of my peers."

Linking to ESPN's press release on Twitter, Jenner added, "What the hell am I going to wear?"

The Guys Choice Awards will air Sunday, June 18 at 9pm on Spike TV. Jenner's show I Am Cait airs Sunday, July 26, at 9 p.m., on E!
