Coachella Saturday Highlights: Muse, Pharrell And Surprises From Jay And Bey

Saturday was a rough day at Coachella, but definitely worth it for those who braved the storm
If you’re at Coachella this year, you won’t be reading this story and if you are… well, this might just make things worse, but here’s a rundown of the best things you’re missing anyway. Saturday saw a huge dust storm rip through Coachella Valley on Saturday, but diehard fans stuck it out anyway for Muse’s headlining gig. The English rockers performed festival staples like "Hysteria," "Resistance," and "Magic," but a large portion of the Coachella crowd left the field early as high winds swept sand and dust across the festival field, Reuters reports.
Muse went for festival favorites and a Nirvana tribute.
The band heroically soldiered on, however, with hits like “Time Is Running Out” and “Starlight”, diring which Muse frontman Matthew Bellamy strode through the crowd and climbed a platform in the middle of the sea of people. Those fans, who left didn’t know what they were missing. The band also gave a repeat performance of their cover of Nirvana's "Lithium," dedicating it to the late Kurt Cobain, who committed suicide 20 years ago.

Pharrell Williams’ gig was another highlight of Saturday. Williams performed ahead of Muse as one of the headliners, kicking off his set with the Coachella-friendly “Lose Yourself To Dance”, a collaboration with Daft Punk. There was a throwback vibe to Pharrell’s show, as he performed some old favorites from his N.E.R.D. days, like “Lapdance” and “She Likes To Move”. But he didn’t leave newer fans hanging either – tracks off his new album GIRL were also a big part of the gig.
Pharrell came in with some vintage tracks and a whole new hat.
The biggest surprise from Saturday had to have been Nas’ show. The rapper has been scheduled to perform for months, but there was an unannounced appearance during his set. Jay Z turned up in the middle of the show, and Nas joined his former nemesis for some of Hov’s In My Lifetime Vol. 1 tracks “Dead Presidents II” and “Where I’m From”.
Beyonce pulled a similar stunt during her sister Solange’s set, popping up unannounced in mid-performance. Beyonce however, kept up her mystery and ghosted through the stage without a single note – something she can only afford to do as the reigning queen of everything.
Music's first couple didn't have solo shows, but instead dropped in on other peolpe's sets.
