The rocker bought the acoustic model, his first, in Devon, England and used it throughout his time at the University College London, where he met future bandmate Jonny Buckland.

The instrument, along with its personalised guitar case, is now set to go under the hammer at Bonhams auction house in London on 24 June (15), when it is expected to be among the top draws.

The sale will also feature two of Eric Clapton's guitars, which are valued at between $6,400 (£4,000) and $11,200 (£7,000), and a rare stereo pressing of The Beatles' Please Please Me album from 1963, which is estimated to sell for $12,800 (£8,000).
