Coldplay have revealed they were once rejected by David Bowie when they asked the legendary singer to appear on one of their songs. Speaking to the NME, the band said that Bowie bluntly told them ‘It’s not a very good song, is it?’ after singer Chris Martin wrote to him asking for a collaboration.

"And Bowie came back, 'It's not a very good song, is it?' I was like, 'OK, I'll take that as a no.' So he was very discerning. He wouldn't just put his name to anything, so I'll give him credit for that.”

Back in December Chris Martin had also spoken about the band being rejected by Bowie saying: "One time i sent him a song to ask him to sing on it. He called me and said, 'It's not one of your best.' He's got very high standards and I appreciate that. It inspires the rest of us to keep our standards high.”

The band also spoke about their sadness upon hearing of the legend’s passing on January 10th. ”I felt incredibly sad when I heard David Bowie had died," guitarist Jonny Buckland said. "We've all loved his music for as long as we've known about music.”
