The Irish star was in Sydney, Australia when he was detained by police because he closely resembled a photo sketch of a suspect wanted for attempting to kill a man in an apartment fire.

Farrell opened up about the incident during a game of True Confessions on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, admitting he was terrified because the sketch looked so much like him and he was drunk on the night in question.

He says, "It was a long time ago and I was drunk... I saw a photo-fit of the guy that actually did the crime and it looked remarkably like me and for a second - because I had had a blackout that night - I wondered, 'Could I have done such a thing?'... (The suspect) had bushy eyebrows, a mole on his face, spoke even in two dimensions with an Irish accent.

"I was supposed to bring my mother to the airport, I was in Sydney, Australia, and I was pulled in by the cops, they showed me a photo-fit, a pencil sketch of the guy that had attempted to murder this other gentleman - had beat him up and left him in his own apartment, set the apartment on fire and split (left), thereby leaving the guy to burn to death - and it was me.

"They said, 'What do you think about that picture?' And I went, 'I think I'm in trouble'. It was terrifying."

However, Farrell was eventually released without charge after a friend confirmed the actor had an alibi for the night of the crime.

He adds, "I was there (with the police) for about six hours and then thankfully a friend of mine had kept a journal and that particular night and that particular time we were at a party the other side of town..."
