Colin Farrell doesn't believe in spoiling his young children with material things.

The actor - who stars in the remake of 'Total Recall' - has no plans to lavish his two boys with expensive gifts as they grow up.

He told The Sun newspaper: ''One of my sons loves footballs, Tennis balls - anything round - and the other is mad on trains.''

The 36-year-old star is father to James Padraig, eight, who he has with American model Kim Bordenave, and Henry Tadeusz, 22 months, mothered by Alicja Bachleda-Curuś.

However the siblings are content with getting to enjoy kids' entertainment and desert.

He continued: ''Toys keep them happy and I give them ice-cream - that's about as extravagant as it gets.''

The screen star - who has battled with drink and drug abuse in the past - admits he has memory loss for certain parts of his past but insists he's not bothered about it.

He said: ''There are a few black holes, where minutes and hours and days and weeks and possibly months have vanished. But whatever's disappeared I'm fine with, I obviously don't need it. As for things I'd like to forget? I don't think there's any.''
