Damon Albarn - Polaris Live Video

Damon Albarn's latest single, 'Polaris', is the second track taken from his forthcoming solo album, 'The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows' which is set for release on November 12th via Transgressive Records.

The prolific Gorillaz, Blur and The Good The Bad and The Queen artist last released a collection of solo material back in 2014 with his Mercury Music Prize nominated album, 'Everyday Robots'. Since then Albarn has hardly had time to take a breathe, releasing new Gorillaz music as well as collaborating on the Rocket Juice & the Moon project with Flea and Tony Allen, numerous Africa Express records and making preparation to tour 'Song Machine'. 

Damon's new track is his fourth single this year following on from 'Young Lies' with Poté in March, 'Long Tailed Winter Bird' - his remixed Paul McCartney track and latterly the title track to his third solo album, 'The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows'. 

Speaking to Lauren Laverne on BBC 6Music Damon called in to explain, "'Polaris', that's a name given to the Northern Star, throughout the ages that's always been a point of orientation for travellers and mariners when they're lost, and I thought that was a nice metaphor for the times we've been living through....and it's about finding yourself."

The accompanying notes to Damon's latest video say that his new album was "Originally intended as an orchestral piece inspired by the landscapes of Iceland, this last year has seen a return to the music in lockdown and develop the work to 11 tracks. Further exploring themes of fragility, loss, emergence and rebirth."

'The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows', the new studio album from Damon Albarn, will be released by Transgressive Records on 12th November 2021.
