Ahead of it's Cannes premier Doja Cat has shared - 'Vegas', a song from the hotly anticipated Baz Luhrmann biopic 'Elvis'. Set for release on June 22nd in Australia and June 24th in the United States, 'Elvis', is sure to be one of the biggest films of 2022 with Luhrmann adding his inimitable style and panache to the project.
Doja Cat previewed her latest track, which incorporates samples of Big Mama Thornton's 'Hound Dog', when she performed at Coachella last month. It was Elvis who made the track his own when he covered it four years later in 1956, taking the re-imagined version to number one on various Billboard charts in 1956 and 1957, including the much coveted 'Hot 100'.
Luhrmann's long delayed biopic of Elvis Presley stars Austin Butler in the lead role, Tom Hanks as Colonel Tom Parker, Dacre Montgomery as Steve Binder, Olivia DeJonge as Priscilla Presley, Alton Mason as Little Richard and Josh McConville as Sam Phillips.
As well as Doja Cat contributing to the imaginative soundtrack there is also a performance of Elvis' 1961 standard - 'Can't Help Falling In Love', by 'Rainbow' artist Kacey Musgraves. Speaking at the recent Met Gala Baz confirmed Musgraves contribution when he said - "she has a song in the movie — something to do with love." Speaking about the film itself Luhrmann said - "In this modern era, the life of Elvis Presley could not be a better canvas on which to explore America in the Fifties, Sixties, Seventies...It was 42 years, but that’s three great lives put into one. What’s extraordinary about it is that life is culturally at the center of the Fifties, socially the Sixties, and actually the Seventies."
