'Glee' Season Five Finale Prepares For Time Jump To Last Goodbye

Lea Michele Glee Cory Monteith Naya Rivera Heather Morris Kristen Schaal

Last night saw the finale of the sixth season of Fox's hit musical series, Glee. Showrunner Ryan Murphy had promised an "explosive" ending and indeed gleeks of the world were handed a fair surprise or two. However, the thing that was decidedly non-explosive was the series' ratings, which equalled that of Ink Master on Spike and was dwarfed by The Deadliest Catch on Discovery.

Nevertheless, the series will plough on for one last season next fall and it looks like the troubled Fox show will keep it fresh by giving its characters a whole new set of opportunities. For example, Sam (Chord Overstreet) and Mercedes (Amber Riley) decided to call time on their relationship after Sam kissed another girl.

And Here's To 100 More "Glee" Episodes With The Same 10 Plotlines

Amber Riley Naya Rivera Lea Michele Cory Monteith

100 episodes in, the New Directions are under threat and it’s time for a Glee reunion. It’s also apparently time to dig up the oldest story lines from the original ND class, so that Ryan Murphy and Co. can show just how much the characters have not progressed since high school. The songs were good though, so we’ll let them off the hook.

Amber RileyLea Michele
The battle of the divas... has been going on since season 1.

They had to be good. Not only was this the 100th episode of the Fox show, it was also a chance to pay Finn Hudson (and, by extension, Cory Monteith) one final farewell, it mostly consisted of the cast revisiting old favorites. Two things should come to mind when you read that – Brittany’s Britney Spears hallucination extravaganza and, of course, the one and only, that age-old Glee favorite – Defying Gravity. Both were revisited in the very first fifteen minutes, of course. The Britney act was a sort of Tango-meets-Toxic-meets-burlesque mashup performed by the Unholy Trinity – Britney, Santana and a holier-than-thou Quinn, relishing the chance to get back to her misfit roots. Cool. Great. Seen it before.

Lea Michele Cory Monteith

Lea Michele has had a difficult year to deal with in 2013, but has managed to put her heartbreak and emotional stress at bay long enough to concentrate on her professional career. In addition to her acting work, Lea has also been hard at work on her first solo album, Louder, and today we got to listen to our second teaser for the album.

Lea Michele
Michele's 2013 has been a rollercoaster ride

'Battlefield' is a piano-led ballad that details an intense and excruciating break up. The track is the follow-up glimpse at Louder, with Michele initially releasing her first single from the album online earlier this month. The Sia-penned 'Cannonball' has already proved to be a hit online, with live versions of the song amassing nearly one million views alone, but is currently a sleeper on the charts, only rising as high as No. 75 on the US Billboard Hot 100, although that figure is expected to rise once the video and album has been released.

Lea Michele Kate Hudson Cory Monteith Glee

Lea Michele has opened up about how co-star Kate Hudson took care of her during the days following the death of her on and off-screen boyfriend Cory Monteith.

It's been almost four months since the 31-year-old 'Glee' star was discovered dead in his hotel room following an overdose, and his partner Lea has been forced to stay strong in the face of the prying media. It hasn't been easy, however, as avoiding reporters was almost impossible in the wake of the incident and so she was forced to ring her trusted friend Kate Hudson who was only too happy to help.

"I called her and said, I don't know where I'm going to go because my house is swarmed [with reporters]" Lea told Elle in an interview for their December issue. "She was like, 'Oh, you're going to stay at my house'. Like it was nothing."

'Glee' Bids Emotional Farewell To Cory Monteith In Memorial Episode

Cory Monteith Lea Michele

On Thursday, 10 October, Cory Monteith was remembered by those who perhaps knew him better than anyone else, as he and his character, Finn Hudson, was remembered in an emotional tribute episode of the Fox musical-comedy. The long-awaited episode came early into the latest season of Glee, which was pushed back a week in order to accomodate the passing of Monteith and in preparation for the memorial episode, The Quarterback.

The handling of the episode has been in discussion since it was announced that series creator Ryan Murphy was planning on making a tribute episode, and last night viewers got to see how delicately the show's writers and cast said farewell to their departed singing quarterback. There was no shortage of emotion, as Finn was written out of the show too, but rather than dwelling on his death the episode reflected on the aftermath of his passing, and featured no funeral or dramatisation of Finn's death. This gave the writers a chance to not disclose how Finn died, but made his death a real experience nonetheless.

The couple have been dating met in 2008 (despite attending the same high school) and Elijah is their first child, Us Weekly reported. Morris will not be appearing in season five of Glee, so it may be that she decides to focus on family life. This would certainly support what Morris said of her relationship and home life in a 2011 interview with Fitness magazine. The Glee star stated "I want to marry Taylor and have kids with him. I love acting, but if it affects my relationship, then I won't continue."

Beyoncé Knowles Carter is never going to be an artist lacking in fans, and even the artists who may have influenced the 'Grown Woman' singer are full of praise for her, namely, Stevie Nicks. The Fleetwood Mac singer was speaking with The Telegraph recently about the latest Fleetwood reunion, when she gave Bey a glowing review for her level head and the way she handles fame and presents herself to her many adoring fans.

Nicks is a fan of Beyoncé as a person and musician

"Beyoncé's great. She's got her alter ego [Sasha Fierce], but Beyoncé the girl, the woman, is very sweet and nice and polite," Nicks told the paper. She went on to add that the singer has remained herself since she burst on to the music scene in 1998 with Destiny's Child, and that after she met the star in 2001 on the set of the Destiny's Child music video for 'Bootylicious,' Stevie was overwhelmed by how down to Earth the singer was. She continued, "She's a good role model. She's not skanky. I'm glad we have her."

Cory Monteith's Final Role In 'McCanick' Will Premiere At The Toronto Film Festival

Cory Monteith David Morse

Cory Monteith was filming parts for two different movies prior to his untimely death in July, and each of these films will be airing next month at the Toronto Film Festival. The film creating the most buzz out of the two, McCanick, is the story of a narcotics detective who becomes obsessed with tracking down a recently released drugs felon, Simon Weeks (Monteith), and it is already being touted as the best performance of Monteith's unfortunately short career. His other film, the ensemble drama All the Wrong Reasons, will also premiere in Toronto.

Monteith plays a "lost soul" searching the streets of Philadelphia following his release from prison, with Eugene 'Mack' McCanick (David Morse) tracking his every move with the help of his partner Floyd (Mike Vogel). Set over the course of one long, hot summers day in Philly, the reason behind his obsession only becomes clear as he draws ever closer to the unsuspecting Weeks - who knows more about McCanick that either would like to admit.
