Few would argue that the death of Glee actor Cory Monteith was not one of the most high profile, widely publicised celebrity losses of the year. The 31 year-old star was found dead in a Vancouver hotel room back in July after what was found to be an overdose involving a deadly cocktail of heroin and alcohol. Monteith enjoyed a relatively short but bright career as one of the TV show's central characters whose on screen relationship with Lea Michele mirrored their real lives.

Tributes still flood in for the star, the cast and crew are said to be devastated and Michele has barely been seen in public since: Cory's absence left a deep wound. Therefore it was probably fitting that this year's 65th Emmy Awards would make the decision to include a special tribute to Monteith in their annual 'In Memoriam' section ahead of Glee's official tribute episode when the new series starts airing next month.

Cory Monteith, the Canadian actor best known for playing Finn Hudson on Fox's hit television show Glee, died from a heroin and alcohol overdose, according to a coroner's report. Initially, police in Vancouver said it was unlikely that the tragic death was the result of substance abuse, though the evidence suggests otherwise.

The British Columbia Coroner's Service confirmed the actor's cause of death late on Tuesday (July 16, 2013) after conducting an autopsy and toxicology test. A statement said: "There is no evidence at this time to suggest Monteith's death was anything other than a most tragic accident."

An article by entertainment gossip site TMZ.com this week suggested Monteith - who dated Glee co-star Lea Michele - lived a 'double life' between Los Angeles and Vancouver. Sources tell the site that Cory "became a drug addict with a serious drinking problem" when he returned to his native Canada, hanging "out with many of the friends who helped fuel his addiction."

The Show Must Go On - Fox Renews Musical Series Glee For Two More Seasons

Lea Michele Cory Monteith

Fox’s musical dramedy series Glee has been renewed and will join returning shows like Bones and The Following on the network’s roster. Not only that, but Glee has been renewed for a fifth and sixth season, meaning we can expect the Lea Michele starrer back in 2014 as well. "Glee debuted as the first and only successful musical comedy series on television, and more than four years later, it continues to defy genres, break new ground and have a significant impact on popular culture,” Fox entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly said in a statement announcing the news on Friday. “Week in and week out, Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, Ian Brennan, Dante DiLoreto and the entire Glee team deliver a series that not only delights and surprises fans, but also inspires them to talk about, share, debate and engage with the show - and I’m absolutely thrilled to have them on board for another two seasons.”

Back in January, Reilly dropped a hint that the network might be renewing Glee for more than one season, by saying: "We're going to negotiate now for the fifth season and beyond."

The decision makes sense for Fox, since Glee – as loved and hated by audiences as it may be – is one of the network’s top performers in terms of ratings. It has performed especially well in its new Thursday 9PM slot and the writers have covered topics oriented toward a more mature audience, like in last week’s school shooting themed episode. It will be interesting what direction the writing team decide to take now, with the possibility of developing story arcs over the next two seasons.

Lea Michelle And Cory Monteith Officially An Item

Unlike Rachel and Finn, their on-screen counterparts, the real-life pair seem very happy and stable. “No one knows me better than Cory. No one knows what it's been like to go through this more than he does … He makes me feel like I can do anything,” Lea Michelle comments in a Marie Claire interview.

Good for them, we say. A stable relationship like Mochelle’s (the newest abomination of a couple’s nickname) is a rare thing in Hollywood, so it seems only natural to root for the happy couple. However, those who were hoping that their real-life romance might add some plausibility to the Glee plotlines probably shouldn’t hold their breath. It’s unknown how long the couple has been together, but rumors about them first started surfacing this spring, and so far, the off-screen romance doesn’t seem to have impacted the show in any way.

Glee's Lea Michele And Cory Monteith Open Up About Their Relationship

Lea Michele Cory Monteith Glee Ellen Degeneres

Rachel and Finn have had a very tumultuous relationship in Glee, to say the least. But in real life the actors who play both those characters have a dream-like relationship.

Lea Michele (Rachel) and Cora Monteith (Finn) have been dating for months but they only unveiled the news publicly on Ellen, to its host Ellen Degeneres. Ellen asked him about 'Monchele' and what it means. He replied "Well, of course I know what Monchele is... it's Monteith and Michele... Yeah [we are a couple]." The news of which inspired the audience to scream their approval.

Despite both looking as though they're in high school, like their famous Glee characters, Michele is in fact 26 while Cory is 30, and it's right about time for a grown-up relationship. Michele is gracing the cover of Marie Claire this month in which she has spoken about her relationship with Cory. "I don't even remember a time when he wasn't my boyfriend. No one knows me better than Cory," quotes NY Daily News. "No one knows what it's been like to go through this more than he does. Feeling like you have that net underneath you allows you to jump higher and go farther... He makes me feel like I can do anything. For the first time in my life, I feel really, really settled and happy. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world."

Glee: The 3D Concert Movie Review

Good
The Glee phenomenon hits the big screen with this oddly conceived movie, which documents the social phenomenon but reveals nothing about the series or actors beyond the songs they sing.

Made primarily for fans who couldn't attend the summer 2011 tour, this is mainly a concert movie featuring some 20 songs from the TV show. Between numbers, we meet fans who have felt the show's impact: sparky high-school cheerleader Janae, who's only incidentally a dwarf; the soulful Trenton, who was forced out as gay in eighth grade; and the reclusive Josie, who has emerged from her shell as a Gleek.
