Since the tragic death of Cory Monteith on Sunday 14th July, speculation surrounding his relationship with Lea Michele has been rife. Rumours continue as they are fuelled by sources 'close to the couple'.

Some sources, speaking to People, claim the couple were weeks away from marriage. This includes Michele's grandfather who told America's Star magazine the couple "were about to be married".Others claim that whilst there was no official engagement, Michele and Monteith had discussed the prospect of marriage, children and their future together.

On Tuesday 16th July Lea broke her silence. Speaking on her behalf, her representative said: "Lea is deeply grateful for all the love and support she's received from family, friends, and fans".

In the same statement made to People magazine, Michele's representative statement disclosed that "Lea has been grieving alongside his family and making appropriate arrangements with them". Michele has found comfort at this time as she and Monteith's family "are supporting each other".

When it really comes down to it, it truly doesn't matter if the couple were officially engaged. Michele has still lost someone she loved deeply and by emphasising the prospect of a marriage, it only demonstrates the loss of Monteith's potential. This should not merely be restricted to his romantic life but to his career and family life.
