The death of Cory Monteith, whose body was discovered in a Vancouver hotel room on Saturday, has devastated his friends and co-stars, according to sources. The Mirror reports that Monteith’s fiancée, Lea Michele, who plays his character’s on-off girlfriend Rachel Berry on Fox’s Glee, was said to be “absolutely hysterical and completely inconsolable”. Michele had been busy planning the wedding when she received the news.

Monteith had been battling addiction since his teenage years.

A source said: “It is absolutely tragic. Lea was busy organising what should have been the happiest day of their lives but now she is planning her worst nightmare, Cory’s funeral,” the source commented. “He meant the world to Lea as she did to him. No one can believe he is gone at such a young age. Cory never shied away from his demons and twice he tried to rid himself of them. He was such a huge talent and touched every one he met.”

Meanwhile, another one of Monteith’s co-stars, Matthew Morrison, dedicated a performance of his 54 Below show to his late friend. Morrison, visibly affected, told the audience it was “awkward to be performing so soon after the sudden death of Cory.” However, he moved on with the show, saying: “You guys came to see a show, I came to perform a show, so that's what we'll do. And we'll do it in Cory's honour.”

In honor of his late colleague, Morrison performed What I Did For Love from the musical A Chorus Line. The song had been performed by Lea Michele on the second season of Glee and was perfectly chosen for the somber occasion.
